    Yeah we did my brothers 2 years ago (91 ex A4LD) with the flush in a bucket method and even ran it dry for around 10 secomds before I could jump in and cut turn it off. 45000 miles later, runs great. Used Royal Purple ATF.

    When the fluid gets level with the mod hole it will stop draining. Then you can see inside. I actually just put a long pair of needle nose in the hole and pulled the part (spool) out.     Yeah, I think I'm going with the Warn conversion. They are somewhere around $225 at the local Baxter parts store. The P.O.S. auto hubs ended up going out in our last big snow. The axle was spinning but the hubs were grinding and the tire was notta. So goodbye auto hubs. Thanks to all who posted.

    Also it could have fallen into the trans pan. There is enough space for this to happen as the part goes into the valve body.

    Get a little (dentist or cosmetic) mirror and a flashlight that will shine in the hole. Then just look in and check it out.
