One problem after another! O/D Light Flashing now...
First, you appear to have a battery or charging system issue based on your information. This can have an effect on your transmission.....car don't start...car don't move. just kidding! Check the positive terminal, they are known to corrode into the wiring (green stuff) and cause a no crank...- mattthemechanic

wiper switch
before you pay, call your local dealer, they had a recall on multifunction switches! get your VIN, maybe it applies! If not all you need is a Phillips head screwdriver and either a 5/16 socket (with ratchet and extension) or a 20 or 25 Torx bit. 15 minute fix.- mattthemechanic

? Fix it, trade it or part it out?
good call on your part! Ford just bumped up their warranty on engines and tranny's from 3/75 to 3/100 about a year ago. I bought a 5.4L Windsor 2 weeks ago to put in a truck I'm selling. Hey, It's a hell of a lot less than a car AND insurance payment! Anything less than 3 G's is good for a...- mattthemechanic

shake/vibrate at 55mph+
NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) problems generally work like this.....1200 rpm engine pulley issue, 33mph tires/rims, 41mph drivehaft or driveline, 52mph tires/rims. Although it is difficult to pinpoint without an NVH Scan tool, I would check your U-joints and tires. Perhaps you have...- mattthemechanic

what gear ratio do you have
Before I traded in my 91 Explorer Sport (used as a scrap metal hauling rig for the shop) under the Cash for Clunkers (got $4500 for a $5 truck) I had 3.73's. She was good for 5 years before that though....- mattthemechanic

3.55 gears to 4.10 questions
have done hundreds (seriously) of Ford diffs. You need to get different carriers (or cases as Ford calls them) to change to locked diffs. gear swap is easy, you will get both a ring and pinion with your 4.10's and make sure you get the carrier and pinion bearings as well as a crush sleeve and...- mattthemechanic

Timing Chain questions
Yes, it is an interference engine. Worked at Ford for 9 years, replaced tons of these under warranty, and some under recall. Unfortunately yours doesn't qualify because they updated the chains and guides after 97 or 98. They still fail, though generally after accruing more miles than yours has...- mattthemechanic
