Can not fill the fuel tank
happy happy! I eventually tracked down the problem in the fill neck. The fill neck had rusted, which apparently is a problem with this explorer, and the rust clogged a screen in the neck. I replaced the fill neck and problem solved. Thanks for the reply.;)- Druidrv

Can not fill the fuel tank
I was having the same problem in my 02 explorer. No error codes but I could barely put gas in it. The problem turned out to be that the upper filler neck rusted out and the rust was plugging up the screen in the lower filler tube. I cleaned it out and replaced the upper neck and presto- good as new.- Druidrv

02 exp front diff question
The front ring and pinion is out on my 02 explorer. The diff bearing went out which damaged the the R/P. I have been told it is a dana 35. Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone suggest a parts supplier other than Ford for the ring and pinion? It is a 3.55. With all the snow we are getting, we need...- Druidrv

thumping thump thump help annoying
Same problem here. Does yours quit when u engage the 4X4? Mine does. I have been told that it may be in the front hubs, making the auto 4X4 engage intermittently . The same noise is made by miss matched tires. Mine are all new but check yours. Let me know if u figure it out.- Druidrv

Another stupid question
Just replaced that last year at this time. The 4X4 high and low engages fine. The problem seem to be restricted to the Auto 4X4.- Druidrv

Another stupid question
Thanks for the quick reply. That is what I was thinking as well. I am getting a slight growl from the front end when in 4X4 and from what I have read, this could be a wheel hub and that can lead to ABS failure. My ABS light is on. I hope this is it and not a transmission or transfer problem.- Druidrv

Another stupid question
Since nobody has any ideas from my previous post about the thumping noise in my 02 explorer XLS, let me ask you guys and gals this. Can a faulty ABS sensor in the front wheels cause the 4X4 to malfunction? Can it cause the 4 wheel auto to engage and disengage for no reason?- Druidrv

A new noise on my '02
The more I read on this site the more I am reading about auto hubs. People are saying that they can engage when they are not supposed to. That sounds alot like my problem. Is this true and if so how do I check them. May be my friend in the transmission business is on the right track. Ron- Druidrv

A new noise on my '02
all tires are equal size and age. (new) Its not the tires. As far as the 4WD, I never use 4W low and the 4W high is used as needed. I have owned this thing since it was new and it has never been beat on or off roaded. Let me repeat, it is NOT in the tires. The noise is there in 2WD and...- Druidrv

A new noise on my '02
My 02 XLS has developed a thumping noise while driving. It sound like it is coming from the front end, and usually when u are coasting or breaking not under acceleration. It will stop if u engage the 4WD on the fly and return when u switch it back to 4W auto. It only does it about half the time...- Druidrv

Looking at an 02
Stay away from the 02's. too many big money problems. I bought mine new and have had every know issue to happen. From the trans to rear end to 4X4 control module. We have never towed with it or beat on it. I have been a ford man all my life, owing a 95 f-150 w/ over 200k, but now I would have to...- Druidrv

New to me 2002 what to look for
Don't Forget 5. short in door, stopping power door locks, mirrors etc. 6. bad temp control actuator motor. 7. broken temp diverter door. I have had it all. It seemed that Ford forgot how to make the explorer in 2002. Good luck- Druidrv
