    My popping noise disappeared when I replaced the transfer case with a used one. I know the problem was caused because the transfer case (in my 99 5.0 AWD) uses a chain to drive the front end. The chain (in the transfer case) was stretched and so 'popped' (slipped gear cog) on acceleration...

    1999 5.0 AWD Explorer. 200k miles. Leaking freeze plug behind engine against upper firewall. Pinhole, but definitely leaks. Looks like I have to pull the engine to repair - don't want to use Barsleak etc. Any ideas? Thanks

    1999 Explorer AWD V8 clunking noise in drive train I saw some posts where there was a "clunk" noise from the drive train just below the drivers seat when starting out from a stop in forward or reverse. The wheel did not have to be in any particular orientation for it to happen. 2 folks...
