Bent Valve in 2000 XLS 4.0 V6
According to the dealership it takes 15 hrs to r&r the engine. Can the head be removed with the engine installed? Either way it sounds like too big of a job to do myself.- r565

Bent Valve in 2000 XLS 4.0 V6
The local mechanic made it sound like something he did not want to do. The price was more of an approximation than an official estimate. He said the engine would have to be removed and that alone takes 8 hrs and another 8 to put it back in.- r565

Bent Valve in 2000 XLS 4.0 V6
Dealership want $1500 to replace the valve. I don't think its worth fixing it. Any thoughts on running it with a dead cylinder? I disconnected the injector and spark plug.- r565

Bent Valve in 2000 XLS 4.0 V6
I have a 2000 Explorer XLS 4.0 4x4, 113000 mi. The valve spring broke on the #6 cyl and bent the valve. My local mechanic wants $1000 just for labor to r&r the engine, which he says is needed to remove the head. I'm thinking about doing it myself. I guess the timing chain is one of the hardest...- r565
