Explorer Code P0016
You were right on the solenoid. I took it back to the Toyota dealership we bought it from and they replaced the vvt solenoid. This may have been on the way out for a while now because she's spunkier now. We had some sort of warranty plan with the dealership and they covered all but $250.- jason46

Explorer Code P0016
So went about a month without the code and it came back. Thinking about changing the cam sensor myself since I haven't had time to take it anywhere, 2 kids playing hockey. Anyone familiar with changing the sensor on 2015 if it would be difficult to get to.- jason46

Explorer Code P0016
For those getting the code and the engine seems to otherwise be running okay, if you're running a motorcraft oil filter change this out. I always thought my engine was clicky often waiting at idle I'd even have to turn the radio up. Well after a 2nd P0016 code decided to do an oil change since...- jason46

Explorer Code P0016
I commend the guys that do that kind of work on their own I don't know the time or energy for that anymore. I was looking for a loose poll on timing chain failures being a weak point. I actually did have some brief startup noise for a couple weeks maybe, seems to have gone away. Since I cleared...- jason46

Explorer Code P0016
First start below 32 and got a P0016 code. The truck is fairly new to us with 107,000 miles now, i've been using mercon oil and filter around every 3000 miles. The engine seems to run smooth. I cleared the code and started it again and it didn't come back right away. What is the likely hood...- jason46

Oil drip on filter
I did hand tighten the filter so that might been it. I've been doing my own oil changes for about 25 years and never had this issue before. Thanks for the info.- jason46

Oil drip on filter
Any idea what causes this, there's always a drip on the oil filter on my 2015 sport. Above the filter seems dry unless the leak is immediately above it. The filter is a motorcraft fl-500s.- jason46

Combined Recalls for 2011 - 2019 Explorer models
Was there another more recent recall for the rear toe links or did we just get duplicate notification? We took ours in a roughly 2-3 months ago and they were inspected. That is also a really small looking weld joint.- jason46

Engine Rattle On Start Up
Would different oil filters make any difference with an oil pressure issue on start up. My 2015 with 105,000 miles just started to rattle a bit on cold start ups. *edit* I was reading more on this, sounds like misfire and oil dilution contribute to this, just staying on top spark plug and...- jason46

Winter/Snow tires
I just got a sent of defender LTX tires for our northern MI weather, they look like winter grip should be pretty good and will be relying a bit on the "4wd"/awd system. We last had blizzaks and they wore out extremely fast and I hate having two sets of tires.- jason46

Check your PTU fluid level!
Didn't realize there is a fill port. I was pressing in about 3oz then letting air out, didn't realize this was dangerous. I saw it recommended on another ecoboost forum and it seemed to work well. Never mind don't do this.- jason46

Checking Transmission Fluid
There are two 8mm bolts at the front of the airbox and it comes out easy, I just did this on mine. I've been meaning to do a drain and fill but have been lazy. AGM (Absorbant Glass Mat) Battery Upgrade?
Its still a lead acid battery, they seem recommended in extreme colds. I have one in an older 1000cc v-twin sport bike that seems fairly hard for the starter to turn over, new batteries were lucky to last a year, they just don't make things the way they use... The AGM is definitely more...- jason46

I’m sure there are a few guys at jiffy lube that care and know what they are doing. But seems to me this is about the equivalent of taking your vehicle to McDonalds to have the oil changed. MTM power pack - SCT X4
I like the package MTM has with the tuner, plugs and map sensor. For me mostly looking to just have some fun the extra $200 for the Livewire isn't worth it to me. Likely get either the X4 or the BDX. ATF fluid?
Nothing that extreme luckily, about a year ago we had to put a new transmission in an Acura, never want to do that again. I actually found some lose hose clamps and it feels better. ATF fluid?
Yea I‘m aware of the fill cap, I was thinking if there was a fill plug easily accessible that would be easier. Just pump it in, instead of measuring the excess, monkeying with the intake plumbing.. I’m really lazy.- jason46

Turns out that was the breather plug, I got lazy and went to an oil change place, 5 guys stared at it for 20 minutes and decided they wouldn't do it.
