    Explorer Code P0016

You were right on the solenoid. I took it back to the Toyota dealership we bought it from and they replaced the vvt solenoid. This may have been on the way out for a while now because she's spunkier now. We had some sort of warranty plan with the dealership and they covered all but $250.

    Explorer Code P0016

The tsb for the timing chain only goes to 2014 and this is a 2015, anyways guess I'll start calling the dealer.

    Explorer Code P0016

So went about a month without the code and it came back. Thinking about changing the cam sensor myself since I haven't had time to take it anywhere, 2 kids playing hockey. Anyone familiar with changing the sensor on 2015 if it would be difficult to get to.

    Explorer Code P0016

For those getting the code and the engine seems to otherwise be running okay, if you're running a motorcraft oil filter change this out. I always thought my engine was clicky often waiting at idle I'd even have to turn the radio up. Well after a 2nd P0016 code decided to do an oil change since...

    Explorer Code P0016

I commend the guys that do that kind of work on their own I don't know the time or energy for that anymore. I was looking for a loose poll on timing chain failures being a weak point. I actually did have some brief startup noise for a couple weeks maybe, seems to have gone away. Since I cleared...

    Explorer Code P0016

First start below 32 and got a P0016 code. The truck is fairly new to us with 107,000 miles now, i've been using mercon oil and filter around every 3000 miles. The engine seems to run smooth. I cleared the code and started it again and it didn't come back right away. What is the likely hood...

    Oil drip on filter

I did hand tighten the filter so that might been it. I've been doing my own oil changes for about 25 years and never had this issue before. Thanks for the info.

    Oil drip on filter

Any idea what causes this, there's always a drip on the oil filter on my 2015 sport. Above the filter seems dry unless the leak is immediately above it. The filter is a motorcraft fl-500s.

Combined Recalls for 2011 - 2019 Explorer models

Was there another more recent recall for the rear toe links or did we just get duplicate notification? We took ours in a roughly 2-3 months ago and they were inspected. That is also a really small looking weld joint.

    Engine Rattle On Start Up

Would different oil filters make any difference with an oil pressure issue on start up. My 2015 with 105,000 miles just started to rattle a bit on cold start ups. *edit* I was reading more on this, sounds like misfire and oil dilution contribute to this, just staying on top spark plug and...

    Winter/Snow tires

I just got a sent of defender LTX tires for our northern MI weather, they look like winter grip should be pretty good and will be relying a bit on the "4wd"/awd system. We last had blizzaks and they wore out extremely fast and I hate having two sets of tires.

    Check your PTU fluid level!

Didn't realize there is a fill port. I was pressing in about 3oz then letting air out, didn't realize this was dangerous. I saw it recommended on another ecoboost forum and it seemed to work well. Never mind don't do this.

    Checking Transmission Fluid

There are two 8mm bolts at the front of the airbox and it comes out easy, I just did this on mine. I've been meaning to do a drain and fill but have been lazy. Before a 2hr drive decided to check it and it was roughly a quart low, and WOW did adding a quart make a difference especially in low...

    Check your PTU fluid level!

This can be used to pump in oil pretty quick through an extended breather hose.

AGM (Absorbant Glass Mat) Battery Upgrade?

Its still a lead acid battery, they seem recommended in extreme colds. I have one in an older 1000cc v-twin sport bike that seems fairly hard for the starter to turn over, new batteries were lucky to last a year, they just don't make things the way they use... The AGM is definitely more...

    Fun at Jiffy Lube

I’m sure there are a few guys at jiffy lube that care and know what they are doing. But seems to me this is about the equivalent of taking your vehicle to McDonalds to have the oil changed. A few times I have broke down mostly out of lazieness and took a vehicle to a jiffy lube type place to...

    Split Armrest Issue

Mine was repaired by the previous owner or dealership, not exactly the most stealth job but its good enough. However this is more bothersome which we plan to try to take the panel off to fix when we have time to get around to it.

MTM power pack - SCT X4

I like the package MTM has with the tuner, plugs and map sensor. For me mostly looking to just have some fun the extra $200 for the Livewire isn't worth it to me. Likely get either the X4 or the BDX. If I get results anywhere near the dyno run on the powerpack webpage I'm sure I'll be more...

    ATF fluid?

Nothing that extreme luckily, about a year ago we had to put a new transmission in an Acura, never want to do that again. I actually found some lose hose clamps and it feels better. I think it would benefit from a drain and fill, just need to pick up some Mercon LV and muster up the energy...

MTM power pack - SCT X4

Thinking about pulling the trigger on an SCT X4 power pack from mtmautoworks.com. Curious if anyone can give me feedback or opinions on it. Thanks

    ATF fluid?

Yea I‘m aware of the fill cap, I was thinking if there was a fill plug easily accessible that would be easier. Just pump it in, instead of measuring the excess, monkeying with the intake plumbing.. I’m really lazy.

We just have the Explorer now but recently had an Acura that I used ramps for oil changes, quick and easy.

Cv axel... motor craft or after market replacement

In the last few years I’ve had some bad experiences with after market CVs and drive shafts, not on fords but one particular incident was fairly costly and could have been avoided going with OE in the first place.

103,000 miles. I was looking at today does the 2015 also have a fill hole underneath?

    Fun at Jiffy Lube

I don’t do as much mechanical stuff as I use to but still change my oil and do brakes. Brake quotes are insane. I also did the PTU fluid after the local shop said they couldn’t.

    Catless downpipes

Anyone know if there is any concern of engine codes running catless downpipes stock? I emailed PPE but haven’t got a response. I like the idea of removing the heat from the two cats, the sound and of course the extra power. Thanks

    Down pipes

Looks like a good deal but I was actually looking to go catless, might consider it. I was looking for install videos but so far only finding videos on how it sounded after install. Rear brakes wearing prematurely

The dealership put in new brake pads and rotors on ours before we bought it certified preowned, the rear brakes were squealing a bit which drives the wife crazy. So I figured they were hanging up in some way and decided to check them out. They had new metal clips installed, but the pads were...

PTU and Water Pump failures for 2012/2016-up Explorers?

Just posted in another post, don't need an analyzer to tell me there is substantial metal in the fluid, although I'm a bit curious to have it analyzed. 102,000 miles in 2015 sport.

    PTU fluid change experience

Turns out that was the breather plug, I got lazy and went to an oil change place, 5 guys stared at it for 20 minutes and decided they wouldn't do it. Trying to jack up all 4 corners is a huge pain, I ended up just jacking the front up, the PTU drain plug is very close to the front and I just...

    Has the ecoboost been fixed?

We recently got a 2015 sport with 101,000 miles on it and we freaking love it. Gets slightly better mileage than our Jeep and its WAY more fun to drive. I've noticed it doesn't seem to use any oil which is nice, both our Jeep and Acura we had last used almost a quart of oil in 3,000 miles...

    PTU fluid change experience

I want to confirm this is the PTU breather plug, are there any other plugs that would look like this? I don't want to start pumping gear lube down the wrong tube. The large tube to the right is an intake tube. Thanks
