The Explorer has 96K miles. Of course, the dealership would like to complete a "power flush" on the transmission. Given what I have read online, I am hesitant to have the transmission flushed. I have been having intermittent transmission issues in my 2003 v-8 XLT - flare ups, rough shifting, studdering, etc - in fact is was pretty much waiting for the tranny to fail at any moment. Thanks for the info. Funny thing.....the manager at the local shop that seemed a bit overly eager, has called me each of the last two days to see if I have decided what to do. They can hardly wait to get their hands on my Explorer.- Interloper

Yesterday, I stopped by the local Cottman Store to have the Free 21 Point checkup done on my '97 XLT V6 SOHC (103K miles). The tranny occasionally slips a bit between 2nd and 3rd gear.
