Well, I guess the question, brokken down, is simple..... Will I be "OK" going from Maryland to Nebraska w/Bronco II in tow, using a tow bar? If I keep it in "D" the entinre distance, will it be a safe bet that the tranny will not repeat the catastophic failure I had happen only 2 weeks ago?

Well, that 's *one* of the things I had planned to begin with until people started marauding my checking account. Aside from that, is there anything besides staying out of OD and keep the speed at 55 or below I can do to insure it makes it to Nebraska?

Well, I was towing my 85 Bronco II to Nebraska from Maryland and it ( '92 EB / Automatic ) left me high and dry at midnight Christmas Eve...... $2400 later, a rebuilt tranny, a new torque converter, flushed the cooler, and bummed because it blew my Christmas plans to Hell. What did I do...

That was pretty much my thoughts on it. It may clear up on it's own, now that it is at least working somewhat.

Actually, I tried it with 4X4 engaged and tried to engage 4 Lo while in 4 H, also tried this in Park and in neutral. Out of shear curiosity, I even tried going into 4 Lo from 2 WD. I'm not overly concered, as long as it will go into 4Hi. About the only times I use 4 Lo is when I pull stumps...

Okay, a few gentle taps with a ballpeen seem to have bumped the actuator motor into working. Seems it wanted to be stuck after sitting a while during the summer months. Now I have 4X4 Hi, but I still can't get the bugger to shift into 4X4 Lo. What next? Bigger hammer?

Well, I guess that would be true, you would lose the "feel", but even then, a judicious bit of casting and machining could have been done to provide a position indicator on the other end of the motor/gear housing. The solutions are easy enough to see now, but then, who are we to tell Ford...
