Check your harmonic balancer and serpentine belt. If that balancer is off it will throw out misfire codes and jumping rpms. Take if from someone who spent a summer hunting down misfire codes on a 2006 Explorer after changing plugs and coils multiple times.
2 Days ago I noticed a heavy steering wheel when making low speed low rpm turns. Like backing out of a driveway or parking space. The wheel was very hard to turn. At higher rpms the wheel turns normally. There is/was no sound, leaks or vibrations. I naturally assumed a bad power steering pump...
