    Review all the elbows in the PCV system to ensure that there are not any cracks. Even small cracks can cause a problem. Mine was similar and found one of the elbows with hairline cracks in it. Replaced and all problems(stalling, idle jumping lean bank 1 and 2) all cleared up and now runs great...

    engine is surging at start up

    David-my 01 Sportrac was doing the same thing... I read extensively across this forum and came up with several potential things that would cause the 171 and 174 that I was getting. Turned out the problem was in a rubber elbow that was part of the PCV system. David you might want to check this...

    Running Lean, can this harm anything?

    Same issue with my 01 sport trac 171 and 174... 1) Cleaned the MAF 2 weeks ago --- reset computer same codes came up 2) Replaced fuel filter last weekend -- reset computer and codes came back up however engine running better. 3) replacing PCV this week and will let you know if that helped...

    Service Bulletin 15696 (01 Sport Trac)

    Anyone know what this says. It was issued by Ford in relation to codes 171 and 174. Thanks
