97 Explorer V8 - Hard Shifting from 1st to 2nd
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer V8 with 96,000 miles. I hate to admit this, but the transmission fluid has never been changed. Lately, the transmission has had intermittent issues shifting from 1st to 2nd gear (all the other gears function fine). During acceleration from a stopped position, it...- 97Explorer5.0

AC Blowing Cold...Now Warm!
I have a 1997 5.0 V8 and recently recharged the AC system which resulted in vast improvement. Yesterday, I flushed and filled the radiator with coolant which requires running the heater on high for 10 minutes. Upon completion, the AC is blowing warm again. Does anyone know if running the heat...- 97Explorer5.0

Actual Build Date
I have a 1997 Explorer 5.0 V8 and I'm in the process of replacing the spark plugs and wires. For 1997 there is a wire set for before 2/16/97 build date and a set for after. I checked my door plate and it says 2/97 (mine just had to be build in February). How can I find out the actual build...- 97Explorer5.0

Are CPU updates needed?
Based on the mechanic's comments, it is necessary to reflash the computer to update the system if you have a #3 or #7 misfiring code. Does anyone have the recall information or reference number? The dealer wants to charge me $80 and is not competent enough to look up the recall. Thanks in...- 97Explorer5.0

Are CPU updates needed?
I have a 1997 Explorer 5.0 with sluggish acceleration. I visited Autozone for a free OBD check. The diagnosis was "Cylinder 7 mis-firing". A local mechanic informed me that he has encountered this diagnosis before and changed the wires/plugs to no avail. The solution he said is to upload the...- 97Explorer5.0

Clicking Noise under Passenger Side Dash
I have a 1997 Exploreer EB 5.0 with 85K miles. Yesterday I started hearing a variable clicking noise/thud just under the passenger glove box. I thought it was something shifting around in the glove box, but I continued to hear the clicking even at a stop. It sounds like it is the mechanism...- 97Explorer5.0

Oxygen Sensor Info Needed
Thanks for the reply. I noticed only (1) pipe on the passenger side containing the CAT with (2) O2 sensors attached per your description. Since my vehicle doesn't have dual exhaust, would I have a pipe on the driver side or am I just not looking hard enough? Thanks for your help!- 97Explorer5.0

Exhaust Leak 5.0 V8
I have a 1997 Explorer 5.0 V8 with 55K miles. Around 30K miles I started hearing what sounded like an exhaust leak which occurred during the first few minutes of driving, especially in cold weather.
