Free sub box...
Hey, wait. It says you have an explorer sport and I think I mentioned this above that the sport (any 2 door model) has different dimensions under the back seat than the 4 door and this box is designed for the 4 DOOR... I want to make sure this box gets used and not thrown away. That's the...- janikphoto

I CAN take a photo with my dit cam, but it is just sitting in the garage. It isn't installed in teh explorer now or I wouldn't need to give it away. I'll email you a photo if you send me your email address. Mine is janikphoto@yahoo.com if you want to ask for photos. As far as the question...- janikphoto

replace speakers?
Components will sound much better to an audiophile than coaxials (unless you are talking about coaxial components, but that's another story), but I don't know your level of perfection when it comes to music. It is like any other quality versus quantity issue. Is the extra quality worth the...- janikphoto

Cheap Sound System
rockford 10" would be a decent woofer. Really the woofer/box combo is more important to spend money on than just considering the woofer alone. A cheap woofer can sound better than an expensive one if the box is perfectly matched to the cheap woofer... Versus listening to the expensive woofer...- janikphoto

replace speakers?
Oh, and you'll notice a big difference just doing the front speakers if you don't want to spend extra $$$ on the rears too. You could actually get by with a decent set of matching brand coaxial speakers for the rear if you wanted. Same brands as above, but since the tweet is mounted in with...- janikphoto

replace speakers?
You can almost always improve the quality over ANY factory system. I would suggest similar as above... like infinity, boston acoustics, focal or mb quart component speakers (also known as seperates). They will come as a tweeter, midrange (6 1/2 or 5 1/4) and a crossover box. They will not...- janikphoto

What to put in front doors
This link should work for infinity 6x8's at crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QIxuYT3LwYt/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?wm=cl&I=1086802cf&s=0&cc=01 And this should be the link to the 150hz/4 ohm "bass blockers" they sell...- janikphoto

adding subs to 98 EB help
yeah, the eddie bauer has extra stuff that may not let you tap in like I did. I popped open the rear door panels, found the wire color to the speakers and then located those same wires in the wire loom right before it went into the doors. This way I could tap into it without having to run...- janikphoto

What to put in front doors
Right and Wrong. Headunits these days are building extra features like a crossover directly into them. However, you are wrong about eternal amps having passive crossovers in them. They have "active" crossovers in them. They are powered crossovers that are cutting out certain frequencies...- janikphoto

What to put in front doors
I put 6 1/2 and tweets in my wife's explorer and mounted them to an adaptor plate since the stock hole is 6x8. And YES, TURN YOUR BASS EQ CONTROL DOWN SOME!!! And YES, PUT SOME SORT OF CROSSOVER ON YOUR MIDS AND HIGHS!!!!!!!! They aren't really meant to play bass and WILL distort when you...- janikphoto

adding subs to 98 EB help
Yes and no. My wife kept her stock stereo (not eddie bauer, but still stock ford) and I had an amp with high level inputs on it. I jumped the inputs off the rear door speakers and ran the remote turn-on wire off an ignition-on lead. I think it was the same ignition-on lead that went to the...- janikphoto

Cheap Sound System
I'd get a new head unit first. That'll be about $250 installed and you can use the last $50 for new front or rear coaxials off of ebay. Maybe some bostons or if infinity. You should be able to install the coaxials yourself (for free) if you can do basic car/truck repair and you got a 6x8...- janikphoto

It was made for a 4 door, and yes it does matter unfortunately. My sister-in-law has a 2 door that was the same body style as our 98 was. which headunit is the best?
Yeah, I've always liked pioneers. Well, except for their 1996 to 2000 era of total crap. But they are back on top again and have some nice models. If the alpine doesn't have an internal amp, that is actually a big plus if you planned on using external; amps anyway. That just means there...- janikphoto

I've got a custom made sub box for a 1998 explorer with tan interior. No, no photos. Surprising since I am a photographer. Anyway, my system with 4 10" JL's isn't in an explorer... We just slipped one 10" under the rear seat of the explorer (my wife's car). It filled out the bottom end quite a bit, but didn't make it into a boomin' system that could be...- janikphoto

Either way, my answer is the same, though you never said anything about a cd CHANGER the first time that I can remember. You said cd player, which implies the cd unit in the dash. Yeah, my audio control x-over has a subsonic filter for that very reason. Yes, a differnet unit will most likely sound much better too. But if you want to keep it stock, you should ask around if anyone on the board has a stock cd player they will sell. Couple Questions
I think partsexpress.com carries some thicker gauges. And just try to run it with as few splices as possible, so hook it to the battery, put a fuse holder close to the batt and then run it straight to the amp. It's better to run smaller wire with less crap in the way than it is to run bigger...- janikphoto

Can I port my sealed box
a lot of talk going on here, but no one mentioned building a transmission line box yet... Windsheild washer problems?!?
One more question... You guys that had problems with your switch: Did it work very poorly/intermittent or just not at all until you cleaned the contacts and bent the metal thingy? Windsheild washer problems?!?
Well, both ideas seem like they would be good to try. I'll hunt down the relay, though I don't think it's a mud-related issue. My wife doesn't off-road too much. It probably just wore out. And if the new relay doesn't work, I'll try spraying some electronics cleaner in the control switch to...- janikphoto

Windsheild washer problems?!?
OK, the washer won't spray anymore when the button is hit, but it's still got a full fluid resevoir and all the fuses look good (though I didn't know exactly which fuse controlled this feature they ALL looked ok). So, I thought the motor might be bad and tried sending 12 volts directly to it...- janikphoto

I think you don't have to talk to ford about those little metal circles cause I remember the gasket having them too. We got out stuff from ford and the new one had it. I don't think they were laughing AT you. They were laughing with you 'cause it was really hard for them to find, too. Why are people saying the new part is stronger than the original part? Does ford sell a better quality replacement part?!? That's an interesting and hopefully correct theory cause I don't want a wrecked trans. Changing Spark Plugs
I just changed the plugs on a 1998 v6 and it didn't take too long. The driver's side was harder 'cause there is a fuel rail or something in the way, but I managed. Yeah, as fun as it might be to explode a car, hopefully you won't ACTUALLY do that. I'm assuming that you have insurance and that would TOTALLY be insurance fraud. But it would be fun! Idea 4 Cleaning Combustion Chambers
I saw that as a tip on an 80's tv car show. They took off the air cleaner after the engine was hot and revved it while spraying a little water into the carb with a spray bottle. It supposedly helped some. In theory it could help clean out a little carbon, but you don't want to use too much...- janikphoto
