Are we talking about a leak on the garage floor kind leak, or a goop all over parts of the engine compartment kind of leak, or some other kind of leak? I definitely have no leaks on the garage floor..- Grant_J

What's your definition of a poorly maintained engine? I do the regular maintenance with it, no pampering but not neglect either. The thing isn't worth a new engine... not with half the dash lights burnt out, the power antenna busted, the stereo display burnt out.. oi vey Ford.- Grant_J

I've been doing more research on the internet and found this... does this sound plausible? "I have a 97 Explorer XLT V8 that had what sounded like a lifter clicking or a bad valve. Hi Everyone, newbie here, I did a search before posting but didn't find much. My 1998 Explorer, 5.0 V8, now sounds like a sewing machine when it is cold out, or when the engine is just started. If it's 40F or above the engine noise will slowly go away after the engine warms up, but if it's...- Grant_J
