check engine lt. only on long trips

I'm pretty sure it's the O2 sensors. I had the same problem with my '95 except I didn't have the strange temp. gauge activity. I tried changing the fuel pressure regulator and the problem persisted. Then I changed the O2 sensors and haven't had a problem since. Don't forget to reset your...

    98 CD/Tape/Radio headunit in my 95

I don't know about this "keyborad" for the "brain" stuff, but I know that there is not a computer or anything related to the stereo in the rear jack storage area (left rear compartment) on my '95. There is a factory amp in the right right rear compartment that you will have to bypass to use...

    98 CD/Tape/Radio headunit in my 95

You need to talk to Paul. He has done the same conversion in a '95 Ranger and he is the one who helped me with mine. I called him to be sure and he told me that the harness that I have is not available anymore, but he does have adapters that will work (much cheaper than what I paid too!).

    98 CD/Tape/Radio headunit in my 95

Yup! I did the identical swap only with a headunit out of a '98. I found the harness at PDA Inc., a company in Denver that specializes in Ford factory audio systems. You can call them at 303-761-6022.

how do I calculate what speedometer gear to use?

Search around the site for this and you will find all the info you need. You can get the gear at a dealership for around $10 and install it in less than 5 mins. ------------------ Brian Corff Dead Link Removed "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. Lick it once and you suck forever."

    Lift ?

You don't have torsion bars. Only the '95 and newer explorers with independent double wishbone front suspension have them. They are what acts as a spring in the double wishbone setup. I think you will either have to use coil spring spacers or get longer springs. ------------------ Brian...

Well, what do you know. Someone else from Boulder who does some wheelin' in an explorer. I do a lot of wheelin' with a buddy of mine with a Tahoe and I don't have any trouble keeping up. His isn't lifted except torsion bars, but neither is mine. A body lift for an early model explorer will...

31's on stock rims--no lift (yet)

Yes, 31x10.5's will fit a stock 95 Explorer. The only problems fitting that size has been with the older body style (94 and older). ------------------ Brian Corff Dead Link Removed "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. Lick it once and you suck forever."

    96' Explorer Lift!

Gerald, yes I do know all that you had to do to your truck to make your tires fit, and I think it's awesome. However, there are now a few people running 32's on the torsion lift and it's just a matter of time before there are more 33's. Also, you are running metric tires which are larger...

    96' Explorer Lift!

Zelite5, I have 31x10.5r15's on my truck (stock wheels) with the 2" torsion bar and shackle lift. I wheel it pretty hard and I don't have any rubbing. You should look into doing this little lift yourself. It is well documented on this site if you look around and it is really easy to do. It...

    96' Explorer Lift!

You can fit 31" tires stock. With the torsion bar and shackle lift (approx 2"), you can fit 32's and probably 33's. The 33's might take a little trimming of the molding, but not much. I think 33x10.5 would be the biggest you could go. Let us know what you do. ------------------ Brian Corff...

    Pro Ryder VST?

I've got the Gabriel Pro Ryder VST's and they are great. I've had 'em for 20,000 miles. Sway and nose dive are virtually eliminated (the torsion bar lift helps out too, but I did that after 12,000 miles after the shocks) and they have eliminated the weird tire wear I was getting with the stock...

The shackles will fit your truck without any modification. Be aware that they are 8.5 inches long. This means that if currently have 5.5" shackles, you will get about 1.5" of lift. You didn't say if that is what you are trying to do. Anyway, call Desert Rat's 800 number and they should be...

Where Did You Buy Your BFG AT-KO's and Why?

I bought mine at a local tire store called Tire Source because they were $89 apiece (31x10.5r15) mounted and balanced. Someone had put them on a pathfinder and they rubbed on the mudflaps, so they brought them back for smaller ones. They had had them for less that 3 days and when I got them...

Gerald, I have an idea for you. Why not make some sort of quick release mechanism for your running boards so you can take them off for wheeling. I've always thought this would be a good idea for body panels on street/trail trucks. Just a thought. Brian ------------------ Brian Corff Dead...

Best general-use tire for s-10 blazer?

BFG AT KO's are awesome in the snow. Last December, I had the pleasure of pulling a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee with Michelin somethings on it about half a mile uphill on a road covered in about 2 feet of snow. He had gotten stuck right at the base of the hill and couldn't go anywhere. I...

    Help me find 33s

I have an idea too. Mat, you said you currently run 32" BFG AT's. If they are not yet worn out and you are only getting new tires because you want a bigger size, why not keep the BFG's for daily driving and put some Mickey's or Swampers on some cheap steel wheels and swap them on only for...

    what oil to use?

I've got to agree with velcrofly in that a 5 quart jug of Castrol Syntec from K-mart is the cheapest and easiest way to buy synthetics (I learned that from this site a while back Dead Link Removed). I use the Syntec with a Mobile 1 filter and change the oil at 5000 miles. Oil comes out a...

Are '95 and '98 factory amps the same?

Jeff, Thanks a lot for your help. This third type of Dual/Media unit with the RDS button but not from the MACH system must be what I have because I talked to the guy I got it from and he said he did not have a sub. I installed the unit on Monday with an adaptor that bypassed the factory amp...

Are '95 and '98 factory amps the same?

Cobrajeff, Thanks for your help. I've currently got the premium radio with the Auto Set button and the amp in back. The dual media head I've got has an RDS button but I don't see a line out for a sub. I don't believe the truck that the dual media head came out of had a sub (I bought if from...

Are '95 and '98 factory amps the same?

Need someone familiar with Ford head units

I am doing that exact swap. I'm putting a dual media (CD/Cassette) head unit from a '98 into my '95. So, the good news is that it is possible. The bad news is that the adaptor cost $75. The adaptor includes a new chip and you have to run wiring all the way back to the amp in the back. All...

    Need for the Correct Speed

I do not have a mechanical cable, I have an electronic sensor (see description in previous post on this thread). I don't think the computer knows anything about speed except that it is based on how fast the sensor is telling it the speedo gear is spinning. Thus, changing the speedo gear even...

    Need for the Correct Speed

Gerald, I too want pictures. I have almost the same setup as Ray, but I've got the build up bug in a bad way. Anyway, back to the speedo gears. Sorry if I told you the wrong place to look, I guess they changed the setup between '95 and '98. My speedo gear is in the back of the t-case, not...

    Need a 3inch suspension lift for a 97 Sport

    Need for the Correct Speed

On newer models there is not a speedometer cable, it is electronic. What you are looking for are 2 wires coming into a harness on the back, driver's side of the t-case. The harness is mated to a round sensor about 1" in diameter and 1.5-2" long, which is held in place by a small flat metal...

*** Tire Safety Warning on Firestones***
