Dynomax Exhaust
Well, thankfully they will take the system back minus a 20% fee. So that makes this a $50.00 lesson, could be worse. My advice to anyone thinking of an aftermarket system for a 5.0, the gains are minimal at best for the cost of the system and the amount of noise you will have to put up with...- BobinIL

Dynomax Exhaust
OK the drone was more than I could take. I took this thing off in less than 24 hours and put the stock system back on. If dynomax will not take it back I may have a good slightly used one for sale soon. I guess I am to old for that loud stuff. I will know after tuesday whether it is for sale...- BobinIL

Dynomax Exhaust
Ok, I installed my new dynomax Super Turbo muffler and 2.5" mandrel tailpipe on my 5.0 Mountaineer tonight. I took it for a test drive and it sounds real good, much deeper than stock. The problem is there is a fairly noticeable drone at 55 to 60 mph. Has anyone tried putting a resonator back...- BobinIL

milage
I have put 4 tanks of gas in my Mountaineer so far and the average per tank was 17.7mpg, 16mpg, 19mpg and 19.3mpg. This is with a V8 AWD and I usually drive like a grandma 75% highway 25% city. I haven't felt the need for speed since I got rid of my 85 Mustang GT convertable 15 years ago.- BobinIL

Want to dress up my Mounty
I was at the Mercury dealer today and noticed all of the splash guards on the rack behind the counter. I thought those would look good on my Mountaineer. The factory ones are sweet the front set goes up about 15 inches on the wheel well. and are molded to conform to the body. But then he hit...- BobinIL

happy SUV owner
I just checked the milage from the first tank of gas through my 99 Mountaineer, 17.7 mpg and that is with about 70% highway and 30% city bone stock v8 AWD. I just insalled my KKM air intake yesterday and plan to change oil to Mobil 1 in a couple of weeks at 28,000 miles. What type of oil...- BobinIL

Leveling my x
Ok, I am standing outside my garage admiring my new Mountaineer when I notice it seems to be sitting lower on the drivers side. at first I think it could be the garage floor is not level or the drivers side tire is low. well after a few minutes with a tire pressure guage and a carpenters level...- BobinIL

I did it!!!
Yup I am definately getting the modification bug. First off the line will be a KKM intake and a custom cat back exhaust on top of my towing goodies. Eventually I will be looking at a westin grill guard and tail light guards and since I am a big duck hunter I am considering a camo-clad vehicle...- BobinIL

I did it!!!
I bought my first Explorer (kinda, its a Mounaineer) after 20 years of owning Ford trucks. I just wheeled home in a 1999 Mountaineer v8 AWD with all the bells and whistles. I already installed the category III hitch and hooked on to my boat and gave it a try. Am I glad I ended up going with...- BobinIL

More ??? about add a leaf
I went to the local Autozone looking for something to help rear end sag when I tow or fill up the back end with stuff. They had all kinds of gadgets to help with this problem. There were coil springs that go on your shocks, 1/2 leaf springs shaped in a v that u-bolt to the back half of your...- BobinIL

Cat back for v8
I have a couple of questions. what is a good cat back system for a 2000 explorer v8? price is a consideration so I think Borla is more than I want to spend. I also do not want it to be overly loud (the wife and kids will be riding in it). Also what size pipes are best for the v8? I know...- BobinIL

v8 or v6???
Wow! Thanks for the replies. I only tow the big boat 6 times a year tops. I do not go anywhere there is any significant hills. I am more concerned about pulling it out of the water on the ramps and I think the 4 lo range would be just the ticket. I am currently using a 93 F150 extended cab...- BobinIL

I am a newbe here and have already learned a lot from lurking around. I plan to buy my first Explorer in the next couple of weeks. Looking at a 99 or 2000 4door 4wd. I have a large 22 foot boat that I tow only occasionally the weight is a little less than 4000lbs on a single axle trailer. I...- BobinIL
