"Random misfires"
Although the vehicle looks like it just came out of the showroom, I am definitely taking this advice. I am saddened that the engine compartment is so tight that the engine needs to be removed to complete some repairs. Not like the 60's and 70's anymore! :(:(:(- Harley Guy 2022

"Random misfires"
I am opting to pull the engine as to allow "room to work"; only because of the location of the rear timing components. It sucks that it can't be as simple as a 351 or most engines from "my era" (70's and 80's) :):):)- Harley Guy 2022

"Random misfires"
UPDATE: Although I haven't tore into it, I am led to believe that it is in the timing chain area. When the weather gets better, I will be pulling this engine and replacing all of the timing components. I have the timing tool kit. Sad that the engine has to come out. Thanks engineers (sarcasm). "Random misfires"
Information update: I am about to pull the valve covers and determine if the thing has a collapsed lifter. my next series of questions are: Will a collapsed lifter cause the random misfire codes? Can the lifters in this 4.0 be removed without removing the heads? A speedy reply to these questions...- Harley Guy 2022

"Random misfires"
I bought a 2005 Explorer XLT 4X4 with a 4.0L SOHC in it. The seller told me it had a miss in it. Being mechanically inclined, I wasn't worried about "a little miss". The seller also went through a grocery list of electrical components that he replaced to get rid of the problem. The code reader...- Harley Guy 2022

New to the thread, but not new to Ford!
I have owned several Ford models growing up. My favorite was a '70 Mach 1. This past Sunday I purchased a 2005 Explorer. I hope to pick the brains of some of you with questions about this ride.- Harley Guy 2022
