lpg affect engine ?
Hi Bruce, Apologies it's taken me a while to reply. I had mine done by "Chiltern Gas Cars" who (were) based quite near my home - however the car has never been right since the conversion so I wouldn't recomend them. BTW I also had a multipoint injection system fitted, it cost me approx...- Brit Explorer

lpg affect engine ?
still around and on LPG Hi Camer (and folks), Yep still around, still running the Ex on LPG. I had my tank installed in the recess where the spare wheel used to be (just don't carry the spare now). It's a good solution as you don't loose any boot (trunk?) space and the car visually is no...- Brit Explorer

Handbrake a mystery
LPG Update Hi all, log time no speak. I said I'd update you on the LPG situation on my Ex. Well after 6 months of nightmares I finally got the vehicle 98% sorted and am now pretty happy with her on LPG. She hunts a litttle at idle on a cold day (but settles down after a few minutes) and...- Brit Explorer

Extra row of seats in 98 Ex?
Just a quick update - Got a quote from the people in Colchester (Motorhoods), they do make a third row of seats specifically for the Ex, cost is £495 inc VAT + £30 delivery - sounds good to me!! - A.:D- Brit Explorer

Extra row of seats in 98 Ex?
Thanks folks - need something in the UK though, with 3 point seat belts that adhere to our regs. I've found one place in Colchester but could do with somewhere nearer and to make contact with someone who has such a conversion.... The Colchester ones are removable by the way - takes five...- Brit Explorer

Extra row of seats in 98 Ex?
Folks, As the proud father of two year old twin girls I often find myself needing to go out with the two kids, wife and parents/in-laws for the odd day out. Trouble is we can't all fit in the Ex. Has anyone fitted an extra row of seats into the boot (trunk) space on an Explorer? Anyone...- Brit Explorer

Engine hesitates with accelerator push...
I said I'd keep you posted on the LPG conversion problems I've been having on my Ex. Well at long last, after 4 months of continuing problems, the vehicle is now 99% of what it was on Petrol before the conversion. No hesitation thanks to an additional stepper motor and very rare stalls (so...- Brit Explorer

Handbrake a mystery
Cheers Mick - on the contrary this is useful stuff, the focus so far has been on ecu mappings and sensor failures but the aircon/heater controls affecting stalling due water temperature has not been considered. I'll feed this back - thanks again for your help. - Andy.- Brit Explorer

Handbrake a mystery
Hi Michael, I'm very interested in what you have to say about the LPG problems you had and would like to know more - I'm currently in the "4 months of stalling/power loss" phase and it's all getting very frustrating (infact the car is back at the installer as we speak). Can you provide me...- Brit Explorer

Handbrake a mystery
Cheers Howard, I'll pass this on to my installer incase - my conversion cost circa £2.5K though and is the latest multi-point system (apparently) designed for the Explorer. The issue I have is stalling in certain driving conditions, I've never had a back/misfire on her. The stalling is a...- Brit Explorer

Handbrake a mystery
Hi again Howard, Please tell me more! I have had the vehicle converted to dual fuel LPG and have had nothing but trouble since with the car stalling (a real pain on an auto!). It's been back to the converter umpteen times and they seem somewhat lost as to what the problem is. If there's a...- Brit Explorer

Engine hesitates with accelerator push...
Hi again BK, Yep the "Chim" is fabulous thanks, and "awesome" is the right word, the performance is astonishing - as it happens just got in from a blast around the countryside in her (a lovely day here for a change!). The V8 was sounding fantastic. Some pics of the car on my website at...- Brit Explorer

Engine hesitates with accelerator push...
Mmmm, interesting.... Hi Meaty, I wonder what part that is......anyway, since my last post the vehicle's now back with the installer for a thorough once over, he seems to think it could be to do with a sensitivity adjustment (I assume related to the throttle position sensor). Anyway, will...- Brit Explorer

Engine hesitates with accelerator push...
.....you're not making me feel any better! Hi VBTRUK, Interesting what you say - the installer I used says he's converted many Explorers to LPG with great success, he even uses Expolorer owners as references for his work!! I'd be interested to hear the reasoning behind your guys...- Brit Explorer

Engine hesitates with accelerator push...
Same problem - with a twist! Folks, Up until a month ago I had a 4.0 SOHC X that performed really well, smooth to drive, oodles of power. I then had it converted to run dual fuel to try and save a few quid on Petrol. She now has both a Petrol system and an LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) fuel...- Brit Explorer

A Rumbling from the front
Hi again folks, I took my X into the Ford dealer today to try and get them to locate and fix a judder/rumbling noise I get when turning full lock to the right at slow speed (amongst other things). I had previously checked the PAS fluid which was full, at the garage today they re-bled the...- Brit Explorer

Handbrake a mystery
Hi folks, Took my X into the local "Ford Specialist" today to have the handbrake adjusted. Unfortunately the mechanic wasn't able to help - he said the handbrake seemed to operate inside the disk and that it was only operating on half the disk, he didn't know how to make it work! Anyone...- Brit Explorer

lpg affect engine ?
Sorry but I still take issue with SW's comments that LPG actually enhances performance. This from BP's LPG website at http://lpguk.bp.com/drivingexperience.shtml:- "Performance Driving a dual fuel vehicle feels no different to a standard petrol vehicle. Power and performance are equivalent...- Brit Explorer

lpg affect engine ?
Hi Explorer8, I've no idea where you'd find out about this in the US - but a search on the web should help, failing that search on "LPGA" and that get's you to the main UK association on this. The main reason for doing it is for cheap fuel (not the "green" stuff) and as you lucky devils...- Brit Explorer

Thanks Robert, As it happens my X goes in for a service in a couple of weekend's time and I'll get the guys at the local Ford dealer to have a look at this (I'll give them a copy of your posting). OK JDraper so you got me on the maths - it was only a rough calculation but you get my point. Incidentally I was of course doing the mental arithmetic on a British Gallon (my fault) which with your figures works out around $5.80 a gallon - that's what you'd pay if you brought your Explorer...- Brit Explorer

LPG for Explorers Think yourself lucky user 10 - I currently have a 4.0litre running unleaded which here in England costs £0.80 a LITRE - that's the equivalent of $7.50 a gallon. I'm therefore having my explorer converted to LPG in two weeks time - all my research indicates it's a good thing...- Brit Explorer
