Installed aftermarket HU no speedo now!
i guess that's the next step, to completely rip apart the cluster and see what's going on. If the speedo didn't work shouldn't the cruise control still work? I've been thinking about that and is seems more like a bad sensor of some sort.- Ride R

Installed aftermarket HU no speedo now!
I'm still stuck in the same boat. Have been driving without a speedo for quite sometime. I have been kinda busy so i really haven't had a chance to really look into this. But, i have bought a new VSS which was the wrong part. I found the VSS (i think) in the rear end and unplugged it and...- Ride R

98 explorer VSS location?
I do have the volume /speed control thing and rear seat controls. My old radio is gone so I can't plug it back in. When I installed my radio I got 1 harness with 1 connector. My factory radio has 3 seperate connectors. I don't know if that is the problem? All my fuses are fine. If it has...- Ride R

98 explorer VSS location?
You guys are killing me here  so i have to check my front and rear VSS? Does anyone know if there is a fuse hidden somewhere that would kill the speedo? What if the radio is completely removed would that have anything to do with loss of speedo? DAn- Ride R

98 explorer VSS location?
I guess the test specs are the same as for the other year VSS? My Haynes manual doesn't say anything different except for 2000 up. DAn- Ride R

98 explorer VSS location?
So where is the VSS then? I'm getting very confused and don't want to pay someone to rip apart my truck. I like to fix everything (that i can) myself. DAn- Ride R

98 explorer VSS location?
the manual says it's on the transfer case. My ABS check light comes on with the ignition then goes off after a few seconds haven't actually tried it though. No cruise control but is that because the VSS isn't reading? I have already checked the fuses, I guess I'll try looking in the rear dif...- Ride R

98 explorer VSS location?
So I installed an aftermarket radio and after the install everything on my truck works except the speedo. The code that comes up is P0500, I checked every fuse I could find and they are fine. So i'm guessing it's coincidental that my VSS went after the install. I bought a Haynes manual and it...- Ride R

Installed aftermarket HU no speedo now!
Hey all I'm new here and just installed a Kenwood HU in my 98 Explorer XLT with the Mach audio. I got the adapter for the radio but they only gave me the one connector for the power and speakers. I had to do some "power probing" to find the antennae power on the other connector. Log story...- Ride R
