project update I know its been a while since i was here, but, my trucking company has kept me too busy to start on a project. I sold the 92 explorer for parts and am searching for another with alot less rust. I am ready to start on my tow rig project because it will be donating its engine...- BDAB

I.R.S. Conversion 91 Ranger?
whats your idea behind your project? tall gears wont make you hook hard and certainly wont help you corner. rear disk will help you stop better and I am a big fan of all wheel disk brakes but if your idea is drag racing then you want drums, they offer less rolling resistance. tall gears will get...- BDAB

Cold Air Intake for 91-94 Explorers
beings how that paticular explorer met an untimely death on a trail next to the spokane river (ended up in the river) I no longer have it, but I think i still have my template that I used and even if i don't it wouldn't take long to make a sketch of what I did and if can wait a few month i plan...- BDAB

Cold Air Intake for 91-94 Explorers
I used a shower drain for my maf adapter cost 3.99 and took about 20 min to trim it to fit and drill the holes in it to mount the maf and paint it (primer and black paint). for the intake pipe I used aluminum dryer vent hose and bent it to the shape I wanted and flattened it out to go across the...- BDAB

I.R.S. Conversion 91 Ranger?
why would you want to do it? you can make a solid axle handle just as well and hook just as hard. convert to a triangulated 4 link and use beefy tubes and a beefy axle and beefy sway bars. I had a '76 F100 that hooked hard enough to pick the front wheels up off the ground and I had a '79 F250...- BDAB

whats the bigest tire you can put on without a lift??
I had 31x10.50 yoko geolanders with no lift and no rubbing. I did trim 12" from the back side of the rubber inner fender on the front and I had just replaced my springs. wether or not your 31x10.50 will rub dependes on the condition of your springs. to answer your second question (cheap ideas...- BDAB

mufflers, what sounds good on the 1st gen.
I wish I had left the exaust alone on my suburban. I bought a dynomax dual exaust kit for a 74 suburban and used 3" (40" long) glass packs and it sounds good (like a big block) at low rpm's (under 2000) but its just too loud and sharp at high rpm's, I lost some low end torque by taking out the...- BDAB

More 4.0l power
I had a completely stock explorer with 31x10.50 and a 3.73 L/S (axle code D4 I beleive) and it did just fine. got around 19 mpg and had plenty towing. look on the tag on the Driver's door. I would like to take a look at the write up on replacing the cam with out pulling the heads. I want...- BDAB

yup ..... why just build it when you can overbuild it I've never built a TTB before, all my big 4x4's have all been converted to straight axle, I want to try something different. I did extensive research on it and think I can get 25+" of wheel travel from it. plus ......... the only...- BDAB

I have a 92 xplorer that is all stock with the crappy 3.27 open gears. plans for it include tri-y header on the 4.0L with a mild cam and a jet performance module, a C6 (trail rig, no need for OD and a small block C6 is more common here that a C4) NP205 with a doubler. going to a floor shifter...- BDAB
