98 Xploder Front Diff Whine
I got good news. The driver's side hub I had replaced last year went out again! I installed a new hub on the driver's side and it is quiet again! Man that was easy to replace. Wish I would have done it last time because I am pretty sure the shop did not replace it. It looks like they took it...- 98FordXploder

98 Xploder Front Diff Whine
I've gotten it down to wheel bearings or axle. I did remove the front drive shaft and it still made the noise. I did as you said and jacked it up and there was no play at all in eiother of the wheel bearings. 106K miles shouldn't be much for a dana 35 but I have heard of wierder things. I...- 98FordXploder

98 Xploder Front Diff Whine
I seems like diff whine but it is kinda hard diagnosing a wheel bearing. Any idea on how to figure out which it is without tearing it all down or am I stuck tearing it apart? I sounds like it is under the hood and closer to the drivers side than the passenger's side which is where the front axle...- 98FordXploder

98 Xploder Front Diff Whine
Well, I am looking at gear sets for the xploder rear axle and there are a few diff gear sets. How can I tell what gear ratio I have without tearing it apart? I am very familiar with Chevy RPO codes but have no idea about ford. WOuld the rear axle and the front axle have the same gear ratios? If...- 98FordXploder

98 Xploder Front Diff Whine
I am pretty sure the gears are probably not meshing correctly and is making the howling noise. I have heard rear axles people put together and didn't shim them right and they howled. I am wondering if the bearings are failing causing the pinion alignments to go all to hell. I would like to keep...- 98FordXploder

98 Xploder Front Diff Whine
I have a 98 Ford Xploder and it has been a pretty good truck. It has 106k miles on it and now has an uncontrollable whine it seems in the front differential. It is the all wheel drive model. It starts whining or howling I should say at about 30 miles an hour and gets so bad you can't even stand...- 98FordXploder
