Ok Jefe, you seem to be THE MAN! I will check the bulb and see if it is attached, that makes more sense. If it's that easy, I will be happy (and sane!) The salesperson who sold me the car may have assumed that the beeping was the sensor, but it sure isn't acting as a sensor, just as a...- lana

ha, backing it into the pillar isn't too bad of an idea if it would just MAKE IT STOP! :) I checked the manual (and the service guy did too) they said the fuses weren't listed so they had no clue - any idea where I might find a diagram of the fuses? Apparently, there is supposed to be...- lana

No, it starts as soon as I put in in reverse. Additionally, it's supposed to beep faster and louder when you are close to an object, but that doesn't happen, I tested it by getting less than a foot away from a pillar in my parking garage (where the beeping echoes through 5 stories I might add :)- lana

I recently bought a 2001 Explorer Sport which came with a reverse sensor that beeps (quite loudly) when I reverse. My dealer had said it could be easily disabled, but when I brought it to the service dept they said they thought it was part of "the brain" and that I would just have to live with...- lana
