EGR / PFE problem on '96 5L V8
Don't fall for this. First of all, why would you replace both at the same time? Replace the DPFE first and see it that fixes it. Do it yourself, it is very easy to replace. It is a little metal box with two vaccum hose coming out. It is about 3" by 1.5" and about half and inch deep. I have...- Ozzy1234

Parking Brake Light
It's probably that you're low on brake fluid. If you are, the same light as your parking light will come on. Add a little and I bet it goes away. My brake fluid leaks and I usually have to refill it once a week.- Ozzy1234

Got CE codes.. EGR related.. engine dies after about 15secs of idle
I agree, DPFE sensor would have to do with all of those problems. At the dealership they are about $70, I'm not saying that's where you should get it. Should take no more than 10 minutes to replace.- Ozzy1234

CEL - 0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
my point is that your tranny fluid is supposed to look low when it's cold, that's why your transmission fluid dipstick has cold markers below the hot markers. All I'm saying is that my fluid looks high when it is cold, and low when it is hot, it should be the other way around. So I'm not sure...- Ozzy1234

CEL - 0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
The Haynes manual says that your transmission fluid will appear to be lower after driving 20 miles as opposed to letting it sit. I don't understand that because if I check it cold, the fluid looks overfilled, even using the normal warm markings. After driving it and checking the fluid, I...- Ozzy1234

CEL - 0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
KPS, Yeah I did have a flashing O/D off light, but it seems to only come on if my transmission fluid is overfilled. After the light had been on a while, I changed the fluid and it went away. I thought it was a little low, added some more and ended up overfilling it and it came back...- Ozzy1234

Curtis, Yeah I was actually all ready to replace that position sensor about a month ago, until I ran into the same problem as you, I couldn't find it. It's underneath somewhere, it would help if I knew what it looked like. Funny you mentioned the powdery white substance on one of the...- Ozzy1234

CEL - 0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
I have had the same P0401 code for about 2 years now. It hasn't seemed to effect the gas mileage or anything, but now because of my emissions inspection, I have to get it fixed (they won't allow you to have a check engine light.) I replaced the EGR valve a year ago, that did nothing. I'll try...- Ozzy1234

Check Engine and O/D light flashing
On my '96 XLT 4X4, I've got both a check engine and a O/D light flashing. My scanner tells me that I have 2 problems, insufficient EGR flow rate and something wrong with my torque converter clutch circuit (electrical.) I read that the "transmission range sensor" has to do with both your...- Ozzy1234

O/D off light flashing? Help!
I have the flashing O/D light as well as a check engine. My scanner says (2 codes) I have a low EGR flow rate and that something is wrong with my torque converter circuit. I read that the "transmission range sensor" has to do with both your EGR and your torque converter. I am going to try...- Ozzy1234
