96 tranny slipping
tranny Yeah, I stopped by a shop, and they said it was the lockup feature. I'm just not used to that. You're right, it seems like no matter what it's $1400-$2k. Regarding only 3rd and 4th, it wasn't doing it in 1 or 2. What I did decide is that if it WAS fried, I'd replace it myself...- stephenC

tranny slip So, I can drive it (at least to a shop), and possibly have no real repair cost. Just to understand, the torque converter may not engage the transmission completely at all times? Very different than my Fordomatic, which just slams 'em together. Thanks alot!- stephenC

96 tranny slipping
Just started driving 96 Explorer, 107k mi. Never had an automatic before, other than a 56 Fordomatic, which doesn't count. No problems except at 60+mph, give gas, and RPM's climb, then start to fall back again to the point where speed seems to be appropriate for RPM's. Not a downshift/upshift...- stephenC
