I get the same noise from mine and it's a 2WD. Always when it's cold and windy. I've replaced Bearings, rotors, Bushings, windshield wiper fluid you name it. Has done it from day one and I now have 126K on it. So, It's really more of an annoyance than anything.

Head Gasket. Same thing on a Pontiac Sunbird my sone drove. Same thing on a Ford Windstar a freind had. I fixed my son's for a couple hundred $$ (Included new cam Timing belt Water pump Etc Etc basically a new top end) He spent over $600 at an engine shop. Labor will kill ya!
