Complete Tranny Failure??
Just got told by the Ford dealer that all of teh forward clutches are burnt out of it and possibly the low rear as well. I'm calling BS on that story cause the damn thing will start up and move if it just sits for 10 seconds and is restarted. They also quoted me $1950 out the door for a...- John D.

Complete Tranny Failure??
Tony H, were you able to get it to drive after the truck sat for a while? It does sound like similar problems but what's got me stumped is the damn thing will work fine for a while after it sits for a bit.- John D.

Little bit of an update. Went to hook up the X last night to tow it home and when we got there I jumped in it started it up and slid it into gear, it engaged with no problems and I drove it down the street and back! WTF! It went through all the forward gears fine as I was driving it back and...- John D.

Complete Tranny Failure??
Just so I have more knowledge on the subject when talking to a mechanic can someone fill me in on specifics of the tranny? I'm not even sure what tranny it is. From what I can gather I'm guessing a 5R55, is that right? I really appreciate everyones input. Also, in regards to the rattling...- John D.

Complete Tranny Failure??
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm having it towed home this evening. I made some calls and have had suggestions from others as well. I initially was thinking a pump failed, as Glacier991 said, or the torque converter went. I have also had suggestions that maybe the flywheel came loose...- John D.

Complete Tranny Failure??
The light comes on in 4 Hi. I didn't get the chance to put it into 4Low properly... didn't think it would matter much as nothing else was working. The OD off had been flashing intermittently for about a week, but it was still in OD I could tell by the RPM's at speed. The rattling started...- John D.

Complete Tranny Failure??
I tried everything you listed. I get nothing in any gear just the engine revving. It started from a dead stop. It had shown no signs of slippage or any problems just 3 hours before. Drove it with no problems, parked it, started it up and it was done.- John D.

Complete Tranny Failure??

Paint Color?
I have a 99 XLT. It has a small scratch on the roof over the drivers side door. I wanted to get some touch up paint but I'm not sure as to the color. It is a Dark/Navy Blue.- John D.

Not sure if an explorer is for me....
With as many miles as he drives there's no way he could lease something. He would get killed on mileage charges at the end of the lease term.- John D.

Hard jerking at wheel lock in 4high??
OK thanks guys. I thought maybe it was normal but wasn't sure. I only did it while test driving it to check the bearings and make sure they weren't squealing when pressure was put on them.- John D.

Hard jerking at wheel lock in 4high??
Hey all. I'm new to the site and I'm looking for some info to help me decide on buying an Explorer. My wife and I test drove a 99 XLT last night. It drove great except for the fact that in 4high with the wheel locked to either side it would jump/jerk real bad when I gave it some gas. I was...- John D.
