U HAUL AGAINST EXPLORERS!!!!
hah here's a lil tidbit that seems to be forgotten from that 'blanket mail' that a couple of people in this thread recieved. This policy is not related to any safety issues. U-Haul policy is based solely on business reasons. U-Haul has chosen not to rent behind this tow vehicle. it...- ShminkyBoy

What step is your truck in of the Jefe 5 step progam?
a 2 in waiting.... I've got the 2"suspension lift/some shocks, did it a month after I bought it (i didn't like the 'squatty stock' look, and it drove like a damn minivan..all better now ;) ), waiting till after christmas for the new 31's. I want to get the BFG's :) :p :D - ShminkyBoy

what does the trans do when it dies?
lol, from what i've heard on this site, if you really blew it and a trans oil/filter change doesn't improve things, unbolt it and throw it over your shoulder and go buy a rebuilt/new one, they are disposable. Reportedly this will all start most often with an O/D that gets bagged. From there it...- ShminkyBoy

adjust your TPS (another free hp mod)
it's on the drivers side of the front of the trottle body. sorry, i have no cam to take pics but it is on the drivers side of the throttle body(front of intake), across from where the throttle cable linkage assembly is on the passenger side of the throttle body. you'll be able to see the...- ShminkyBoy

got rear ended....... how can this be fixed
I disagree. I've seen quite a few "fixed" unibody collision repairs in cars and trucks. if the damage is more than minor, a unibody vehicle is nearly impossible to get as straight as it was factory. The doors will sag. The car will track sideways. I've seen "light corner taps" crack...- ShminkyBoy

Prefer Auto. or Manual Transmission?
I got a stick. yeah, but the torque gains aren't linear. you do have to "step on it" for the torque multiplication to be effective, whereas a manual realizes the torque instantly due to it being a gear, and a direct drive, and not fluid under pressure driving the drivetrain.. You can't get...- ShminkyBoy

4wd High on 95-96 Explorers
negatory. Disrupting a sensor causes the gem to throw a code, might also cuase the gem to not engage the front wheels at all, because of a sensor problem. this has been mentioned in past mod threads. the reason i am suggesting what I am is for two reasons: 1) it doesnt change the stock...- ShminkyBoy

4wd High on 95-96 Explorers
Thets think about this. Ok, I've gone and done about as much reading as this site can provide on it so far, and I think it's still feasibly possible, if not as easy as the brown wire mod after all. I believe someone already tried swapping computers, with the net effect of frying the...- ShminkyBoy

4wd High on 95-96 Explorers
Hmm. I think the last consensus was that there was some electrical tom-foolery needed to make it work. Not sure if it ever worked as planned though, the thread kinda went off on a tangent. I also have a 96, would be nice to have the option of having just 4hi instead of 4 auto, while having...- ShminkyBoy

Motor Craft VS The Other Guys
I've never had a problem. As far as pcv, and filters, a company like purolator is fine though Motorcraft stuff has always performed flawlessly for me, so i dunno I guess it's fine... I agree with alec though, deffinately get the Motorcraft plugs, They seem to work the best longest ..i've had 6...- ShminkyBoy

adjust your TPS (another free hp mod)
heh. yea, it will work on any ford with that tps sensor arraingement. my 1989 mustang AND my 1996 thunderbird both had a tps, same value to shoot for (.96 v) as well. generally speaking if your truck looks on the dash tach like it's idling below 1k your probably all set, idling at or above...- ShminkyBoy

adjust your TPS (another free hp mod)
yes. yea, 1k is deff too hgh. You may want to do a search of the forums, or some one will correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the curb idle is like 625 or 725, i forget. deffinately not 1000 though, sounds like your truck is stuck in a 'cold start' state or something, if it's idling that high...- ShminkyBoy

lift softness ?
I just put shackles on mine. No change in ride harshness at all. it gave me almost 2" you prolly could have your rears re-arched to gain the other .5" - whatever depending on how much lift shackles would give you. This way the ride harshness increase of the aal might be avoided by not...- ShminkyBoy

Micro$oft in your car... unavoidable?!
ACK /me burns his car and buys a bicycle. Micro$oft has their dunghooks in enough stuff already. With M$, I bet we'll end up with cars that: Crash unexpectedly. If you run it in a non-standard way, it will stop after ten minutes of doing what you wanted, turn blue, and refuse to...- ShminkyBoy

try again, you prolly didnt get to the wire i actually took hat pins and pushed them into where each of the wires goes into the connector(but not into the wires's insulation, where the insulation goes inside the connector actually), because the leads on my meter were too fat to get into the end...- ShminkyBoy

5 speed manual trannies - How many of you were lucky enough to get one?
Someone say slushbox?? When I was looking at trucks to buy, I had an opportunity to get a black 95' sport with an auto trans, or a red 96' sport with a 5 -speed manual trans.. I have a cool lil' shiny red truck now, figured a manual trans would be more wise to buy than an auto, espesially...- ShminkyBoy

ANY AFTER LIFT ISSUES??
after - lift findings I lifted my truck a little while ago, using about 1.5" of TT lift and a set of Warrior extended shackles in back (part # war153 i think). BFG A/T's that fit on Stock rims. In my opinion the truck now actually rides BETTER than it did before the lift (it feels like a...- ShminkyBoy

Newb Apten questions - Manual Shift
:) "Aside from the fact that chip induced "shift improvements" aren't applicable to my truck since it's not an automatic, will the gains the chip provides otherwise justify the cost of the chip? what can i expect if i get this chip?" -quoted yes, 5 speeds are awesome, i had one in my '89...- ShminkyBoy

Newb Apten questions - Manual Shift
Hi. I'm a proud new owner of a 1996 explorer sport, with a 4.0l v6, manual transmission, essentially stock motor, with a 2" overall lift. Did a quick search on apten chips and stick shifts, but nada... I've been considering an apten chip, but was wondering if others with a manual shift had...- ShminkyBoy

woohoo Well, I bought my truck not too long ago, in October. Checked out this site, started reading `bout stuff, and decided to put some Warrior shackles in it and do the TT.. Cool, another 1.5" to me, for 60 bucks ;). Saw the "throttle cable mod", decided to try it, and gee, I had some...- ShminkyBoy

control trac mod
hmm that would be a nice mod.. there was another thread on here that dealt with the 97' and up t/cs that achieved something similiar to this by putting a switch in somewhere, could someone provide similar pic's for 95'-96? would this even work? would be nice just to have a choice between "4wd"...- ShminkyBoy
