4x4 is trying to engage
I had a drive line speed sensor go bad on my 97 and it did that. One of the wires got a little nick in the insulation and was shorting to the case. I replaced it and all is back to normal. Probably could have repaired the nick with shrink tubing or electrical tape too but since I had it out I...- m_sanborn

hello and any diy(do it yourselfers) people here? transfer case problem
Not sure what you mean by a ratcheting noise but if you mean the transfer case is putting itself into FWD unexpectedly, you might check out one of your driveline sensors. I had one go bad on my 97 and it was an SOB to chase down because it was intermittent. I finally found a small nick in one...- m_sanborn
