Hey guys, for those who care, I saw a 2002 Explorer with what appeared a 3" to 4" lift.
I was at Mammoth, and happen to walk right by it. It had some 235 somthing ( not used to the metric sizes so I can't remember) GY MTR's. My buddies were in a hurry so I did not have time to really look into...
That's a good price, I paid $100 more for mine. It was done by Powertrain Industries, Garden Grove, CA. Remember mine does not work all that well. For what I'm seeing having a true constant velocity joints as opossed to the double cardan CV on mine and Trailmasters, would yield better...
TM Shaft
DJohnson,
You may be right about the angles, but look at the Trailmaster shaft, the part with the gold ring is separate than the main shaft, there is your slip yoke.
Does anyone have an update on this God forsaken issue??
In my personal opinion, I think the key to Matt's success here is the fact that his Torsion bars are not cracnked up, therefore reducing the angle of the shaft. In fact I believe the post said that he had them bellow specs, so even less...
This ais also called a CV, it is just a different kind:
and as you can see, mine is on the long end of the shaft, and yours is on the short. We were thinking maybe that made the difference for you. ???
Thanks gage. Actually 2001XSport is who has the one with the CV in front, the TM is just like mine.
I am taking it to a shop where the mechanich is a Professional Baja racer. We'll what he has to say.
Got Pics!
OK Here are the pictures of the shaft. As you can see it the same design; which sucks, because now I don't know what the problem is!!
Here is the whole shaft
This is the CV end
... and the U joint end, which goes on the front diffy.
...what next?
Leaking out of the front diffy, where the shaft bolts on. It is very small. I am assuming the seal may have suffered from the harsh shaft vibration. I drove on the freeways to day without the shaft past 80 MPPH and no vibration.
My next step is to try the stock shaft with the extension...
gage, my shaft is identical to his, but with the shorter shaft on the side of the Uv, which goes on the diffy. On the other end, mine stops at the CV, which has 4 bolts. These 4 bolts bolt onto a metal disc that bolts to the stock bolt pattern.
Other than those differences described, it is...
Adapter
Gage, Isee what you mean. Either way, no welding at all on mine.
I took the shaft again tonight. I want to see if I can once again hear it without the shaft. One thing I did notice though, the differential is leaking a little bit through where the shaft bolts on. Could this be...
I actually have 33x10.50 AT KO. I know it is not the tries because this whole vibration issue came up when we regeared from 3.73 to 4.56. This made the drivetrain turn that much more. The shaft spins at higher RPM, hence the vibration. Before I may have needed to go 90 MPH to tell the...
Oh, alright. Well mine is backwards. they made the sliding part in the front. But I gues it does not make a difference since your did not work either. I can't understand why 2001Xsport is not getting a vibration?!?!?
Well, Gage, check that out. If you pay attention, the shorter side of the shaft on his set up is the one that goes into the transfer case/ Mine looks just like that, but the axle side is the short one. How is yours?
2001Xsport, are you saying you can get me your stock one if I pay shipping?
gage, that clunk you hear could be the rear yoke. there is a TSB out on it. Mine got replaced a few months back at the dealer ($140 I think) and it eliminated that.
As far as the front shaft goes, I may go back and buy an original one again (I was so stupid to throw out the stock one...
I JUST DID!
A week ago I finally gave in, or should I say gave up. I bought a Blazer ZR2. I am still keeping the Explorer unitl the end of the year. then, I will be selling it. So, I'll keep you guys posted on how being on the other side goes (Chevy) I know after this I will probably...
