I figured that would be the case. I’m definitely interested to see what that powertrain is capable of. The only reason I would think a V-8 instead is for a lesser cost and reliability.- ttime500

2019 explorer, thoughts, hopes?
Most people don’t want a FWD car in snow either they want four-wheel-drive/AWD. I’m not saying a purely RWD performance suv but one that has torque split to the rear as opposed to the current FWD setup. If you don’t see the benefit to a RWD based AWD suv you should look into SRT, M, AMG etc.- ttime500

Do we have a break down on what percentage of explorers sold are with the 4wd/AWD? I don’t think many buyers care if it’s fwd or rwd. From a performance stand point rwd is preferred.- ttime500

The majority of the luxury suv market is RWD based. X5, GC, land rovers, Mercedes, Durango, etc. It’s not going to go back to just RWD. But from what I’ve heard it’ll be RWD based AWD.- ttime500

2019 explorer, thoughts, hopes?
QUOTE="peterk9, post: 3674932, member: 163604"]I would expect the 2019 to be almost identical to the 2018 and also a possible 'short' model year given that the 2020 is supposed to be a 'redesign'. Peter Looks that way. As far as sharing with the ranger, what platform is the ranger using? I’m...- ttime500

With the exception of sports cars and non forum people does anyone realize new gens are in the works for any car? I would say the majority of people are just waiting for it to show up at an auto show, which then shows up online and in the mags.- ttime500

Couldn’t you make the argument though that some who know it’s coming aren’t going to buy anyway and 2019s are being sold at huge discount. If they accept low sales for 2019 but come big for 2020 they can sell the next gen at MSRP and have much larger profit margins.- ttime500

2019 explorer, thoughts, hopes?
Ford has been pretty good about keeping future products under wraps, gt500 is due soon and seen nothing. Also it has been spied a few times over the last year. Last in Colorado doing high altitude testing. Is this a new Ford Explorer spied testing in Colorado?- ttime500

As far as I know, none of those are the “official” but rather renderings. So they’d still be debuting it persay.- ttime500

Just bought 2015 sport, loss of power
I have a new explorer sport and am now going to keep much more of an eye on it after reading so many issues. I really like the new traverse you mentioned you were getting. I just wish GM would offer a higher performance level like an SS model. Put a turbo or 2 on that V6 and offer a 400-450 hp...- ttime500

What does everyone want to see in the redesign of the Explorer?
I can accept there never being a V8 again, if they go to RWD bias and the 10 speed. I'd still like to see Ford performance produce a 450+ hp explorer to compete against the SRT twins. Based on the number of platinums and sports I see on the daily I'm sure there's a market for it.- ttime500

What does everyone want to see in the redesign of the Explorer?
I would like to see a RWD and 10 speed as well. I think that could lead them to producing either a V8 high performance model or at least a 450+ ecoboost version.- ttime500

2018 Navigator said to have 450hp 3.5L
I think you meant Lincoln. BUT Ford offers all the true performance oriented cars. So my point is I think Ford well offer another trim like RS or whatever and it'll be a 450+ hp designed to market against the SRT cars and the new tahoe rst.- ttime500

2018 Navigator said to have 450hp 3.5L
Is that true? I thought most of the cross models were rated the same, or damn close? Isn't lincolns "explorer" the MKT? Rated at 365. Also if Ford decides to develop a special edition Explorer it'll have more power, all the performance cars they offer are Ford branded not lincoln.- ttime500

2018 Navigator said to have 450hp 3.5L
This is all speculation on my part, that IF they go back to a RWD bias explorer I think it could get a V8 or spawn a more powerful version. I bet a V8 could fit fine, people don't realize how much additional space is needed for those turbos, piping and intercooler work.- ttime500

Secret Sport Mode? =P Sand Mode
As far as I can tell "Sport" mode only affects transmission and slightly in suspension. It appears to do nothing with power delivery. Sand mode actually sends more power/torque to the rear wheels instantly. I'm not sure about in the pre 15 but in the '17 there is an AWD power delivery in display...- ttime500
