1997 Explorer Limited 5.0 No Start

Although you have fuel at the rails, I would check pressure with a gauge to ensure it is up to factory spec. Sometimes you'll get some pressure on a weak/dying fuel pump, but it won't be enough to run the vehicle. Also, you may want to try holding the gas pedal to the floor when cranking and see...

    98 Explorer door lock issue

Thank you, I will check it out this weekend and post up my findings/results!

    98 Explorer door lock issue

I've had an issue going on with my door locks for a while now. None of the doors will lock using the remote fob or inside lock button, however, they will unlock with the remote fob and inside lock button. The remote also sets the "alarm" when I push the lock button twice. I'm assuming this is an...

    5.0 Exhaust Manifold Identification/questions

I get what you're saying, I know the design sucks (not arguing there). But if what I have are just regular old factory stock originals, why do they look so different from the stock one on the right in my comparison pic (aside from being laid out generally the same way)? The ones I have look like...

    5.0 Exhaust Manifold Identification/questions

That's kind of what I thought too, or am I just crazy here? Side by side comparison: Perhaps there are only pics of aftermarket reproduction ones online that I am finding to compare it to. I haven't seen any actually listed as stock Ford OEM brand. But looking at the factory original ones...

    5.0 Exhaust Manifold Identification/questions

Thanks for the clarification. I was also getting confused because all the new manifolds available now for all 96-01 model years at various auto parts store websites showed the reproduction manifolds with the EGR ports on them. Wasn't thinking like a penny pincher lol I didn't consider the cost...

    5.0 Exhaust Manifold Identification/questions

Thans guys. Did the pre gt40 head engines use a different EGR system? That's what puzzles me about these (the no egr tube port thing). Nobody's done EGR delete on these engines? I'm more of a GM guy when it comes to my automotive knowledge, but I know EGR delete can be done without issues (with...

    5.0 Exhaust Manifold Identification/questions

Does anyone know if the pictured exhaust manifolds are OEM or some type of custom build? I was browsing Craigslist for parts and since they were such a great price, i hurried like an excited little kid and bough them for $25 for the pair, look like they were never used. I however, failed to...

How many miles on your 2ND GEN EX?

222,000 on my 98 Explorer 5.0 AWD (bought it with 167,000 3 years ago). Overall it has been a great truck and just needed a few repairs since I've owned it. Replaced the main rear brake line not long after bought it, as well as installing a new radiator and water pump around the same time. The...

03 Explorer Sport Brush guard on a 98 XLT?

Okay, thanks a lot guys. I was gonna get it for $100. Don't really need one that bad, just like the looks of them.

03 Explorer Sport Brush guard on a 98 XLT?

No, it won't work? Or no frame differences?

03 Explorer Sport Brush guard on a 98 XLT?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a brush guard from an 03 Explorer Sport would mount up to my 98 XLT with no major issues? I found one for sale on Craigslist for a good price and I am thinking of picking it up. Not sure if there are any frame differences that will cause...

    Replacing Main brake line

I had no issues just bleeding at the calipers. But I didn't let the master cylinder run dry. If you lost all your fluid and pushed air through the whole system, then you might need to do something special for the ABS pump.

Replacing voltage regulator rather than entire alternator: Did I decide correctly?

As long as replacing the regulator solved your problem, I'd say you decided just fine. Most of the parts store alternators are a crap shoot with shoddy workmanship anyway. You'd probably be better off having yours rebuilt locally whenever the time comes. But if you do decide to go with a parts...

    And the rebuild continues!!!

Glad I could be of help. :) I'm a newb to this forum, but not to automotive forums. But this is the first Ford forum I've joined. They definitely are a great resource since so many others have been there and done that before, so they save a lot of time and money. I joined to learn all I can...

    One thing after another (rant)

Well, I can attest when you get a vehicle for free or next to nothing in my case ($600 for a 98 XLT with 5.0 AWD) usually comes a list of repairs that will be necessary. Most of the time there is a reason why someone would give it away or sell it dirt cheap. Not really the fault of the truck...

    And the rebuild continues!!!

I just replace the main rear brake line and rear wheel brake lines yesterday, see this thread, it has a lot of info. Maybe it will help :) http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236951 I posted what I did at the end. Don't worry about bending the lines, the Polyarmour stuff...

    Replacing Main brake line

Not really anything new to add to this thread, but I did this job yesterday on my 98 Explorer AWD 5.0. I developed a leak in the rear line over the axle shortly after I purchased it. I also did the main line from the ABS pump back as preventative maintenance. The main line wasn't leaking, but...
