    Anybody towing a long trailer?

I have a 2010 V8 tow package (rated about 7,200 lbs). I currently tow a 26' (tounge to tip) Rockwood 2504S Travel Trailer that's about 4,600lbs dry. Figure 5,600 with accessories, cargo, passengers, etc. I have an E2 weight distributing anti-sway hitch....it's the knockoff of the Equalizer...

    AWD vs 4x4 4.6?

Hey 97Exploder19: I have a 2010 with 4.6V8 and 4WD. The auto 4WD usually runs in 2WD unless a wheel starts to slip then the front wheels kick in. If I nail it half throttle in the snow, I can feel the rear tire slip for a split second before the front wheels kick in. Overall, I like it...

    Transfer Case Fluid Change

Just got the truck back from the dealer. They replaced the front hub assembly on both sides :D so I should be good for another 60K. Decided to hold off on the trans fluid for now.

    4.6L Coil/Plug upgrade

In regards to the plugs, I'd stick with Motorcraft. I "upgraded" the plugs on my '07 Mustang GT (essentially the same 4.6 motor) to the E3 brand (E3.07 part # I think) and it was a waste. Seemed like a slight decrease in MPG. Couldn't feel any difference in performance, idle, etc. The old...

    Transfer Case Fluid Change

Taking my 2010 to the dealer next week. Truck is a V8 and I tow a 5,000lb trailer about 2K miles per year. It's at 60K and front driver's wheel has been getting loud the last couple weeks - suspect it's the wheel bearing. (I still have a few months of extended warranty left thankfully). Do...

06-07 V8 Spark Plug Issue - Change Them Early?

Did anybody have a change in gas mileage after installing E3 plugs? I have a 2007 Mustang 4.6 3V (same motor as my 2010 Explorer) with 52K. On my commute (mostly backroads, some traffic) I was averaging 22-23mpg. I'm currently not working, so figured I got the time, I'll replace the plugs...

    First time towing big

That would be great if you can find a wind deflector that attaches to the factory roof rack - easy install. Keep us posted.....

    First time towing big

Indeed, that's the setup I had. Except your's is nice and level. I could've dropped my ball height a notch or two...the front of my trailer was really high. It's amazing how tall the trailers are....they tower over the explorer! I see you have a slideout...my rental did too. When the...

    First time towing big

Following up with my experience as promised. Got back from my vacation a couple of weeks ago. The explorer (2010 4.6L) towed our rental trailer pretty well...a little better than I expected. The trailer was approx 28' and 5,000 lbs. The dealer had a WDH with 1 sway bar attached. If it was...

    Transmission Temperature 4.6 6 Speed

Thanks. I tried following the lines, but no success. Now that I know more what I'm looking for, I'll trace 'em again during the next oil change. Sounds like it's a dedicated trans cooler.....just extra peace of mind seeing it firsthand.

    Transmission Temperature 4.6 6 Speed

Hey thanks Brakeman. I just wanted to be sure mine is somewhere in the ballpark before I start towing.....and wanted to know how much of a temp increase to expect. With the factory tow package, I read somewhere that it has a trans cooler, but when I last looked during the oil change I couldn't...

    Transmission Temperature 4.6 6 Speed

Just curious what a normal transmission temperature is for a V8 Explorer with the 6 speed auto. I am towing a ~5,000lb travel trailer next week and just bought an ELM 327 bluetooth OBDII adapter with the TORQUE app on my Droid to monitor the trans temp. I just got it working, and driving (no...

    First time towing big

Thanks for all the info! I was more concerned with the length, but sounds like I need to keep an eye on the weight. I'm guestimating 4,800 on the trailer dry, 4,700 for the truck, and another 1,000 for people and cargo, so about 10,500. Sadly, the next size down trailer wasn't much lighter...

    2006-2010 Explorer EB Differences

Coupla small items: late 2008 started the capless fuel tank. And 2009 or 2010 they added the electronic trailer sway control. Doubt either of these would make a difference to you though. Also, the newer 2009 annd 2010 models are sometimes still under factory warranty and you can still add...

    First time towing big

In a few months I'm renting a travel trailer and taking the wife and kid out for a week. Thinking about buying a camper, but we want to try it out with a rental first. We're in NJ, picking up the rental trailer, and driving out the PA turnpike to Pittsburgh, about 350 miles. The trailer is...

How do I safely relieve Fuel pressure??

Just an FYI follow-up. The method I used worked. There was still quite a bit of fuel in the lines and filter, but it wasn't under high pressure and didn't spray out far.

How do I safely relieve Fuel pressure??

Hi guys. I recently got a 2010 explorer and am changing the fuel filter in a couple hours. Trying to figure out how to relieve the fuel pressure. I had a 94 Tbird and a 2007 mustang and they were easy....just pull the fuel pump fuse under the dash and let it run till it dies (a few seconds)...
