    1999 Explorer gearbox help

Oh and on the lift kit.... Any reason you're doing a body lift rather than extended shackles and torsion bar turn? I got 2" (closer to 2 1/2") on mine with those.

    1999 Explorer gearbox help

I have available a new separator plate and gaskets for the tsb VB upgrade. Also have a new solenoid bracket available. I'm in leicester!. I may have a few other random bits laying around also. I would do the trans fluid and filter and see how it is before doing band adjustment. Whilst in there...

    Single Din Factory Radio Bezel

Yes you should be able to. It is certainly possible to use on the later UK model as at least one of the guys did it a few years ago. If you search the UK threads using term "single din" and author Christ you might even find his thread

2000 ford explorer starter and running problems

This sounds to me like the crank position sensor. Crawl under the front of the truck and disconnect it and reconnect it a few times to clean the contacts. Then once back together try to start.

    Single Din Factory Radio Bezel

these were on 96 and early 97 explorers in the uk. The rear tailgate has an offset numberplate also so if you search ebay uk for breaking vehicles then this will give you the heads up

    Air suspension

Some things to check Underneath there should be a ride height sensor attached to the boot floor at one end and the axle at the other. Its approximately in the middle but just to one side of the diff. It has ball joint on each end either of which can pop off when worn. Check the air lines aren't...

Minimum effort for timing chain cassette

Tech is correct, Dale (streetrod) has done a load of threads on timing chains etc. He was instrumental in me being able to do my engine.

Minimum effort for timing chain cassette

Youll need the timing kit or a work around. Others in the US have done it without but you need a way of locking off the cam and the crank. Everything needs to come off the front. The aircon can stay connected and swung into the battery tray once the battery is removed. Then the crank pulley has...

    Gearbox fault

What up with the tranny? A filter change and new fluid may sort it. Whilst you are there do a band adjustment and check all the valve body bolts are torqued up ( they can be a liitle loose and casue the VB gasket to blow out)

    manual gearbox

Nor did I until I sold a spare engine I'd rebuilt to a mustang guy that had blown his up! The guys in the US are now sourcing their engines for their explorers from mustangs as they are newer and lower miles. The other option is the Landrover discovery that used the same engine in certain...

might be worth checking out mustang forums as some of those came with the sohc engine and may have had manuals

    starting problems

my first thought was the switch on the end of the ignition barrel but if you have changed this and the problem is the same then rule that out. Next up is damaged wiring shorting out somewhere or water ingress. engine bay fuse box is good place to start as well as around both footwells and wires...

    Modifying 2001 northface

I would be looking on Mustang forums as some of them run the same engine. May be able to get off the shelf mods that fit like intakes, exhaust manifolds, cams and even management

    Engine rattle!

Glad that is sorted. You found some bearings to fit then? The alt came apart OK? I've only done one off can mr2 and a Saab 9000

    Engine rattle!

I have managed one by clamping very tight in a vice between 2 bits of wood. Another one I tried this didn't work so I just took it to my local tyre place and they buzzed it off for me. I now have a 240v impact gun bought from machine mart for £70. Best tool I've bought in years, great for...

    Engine rattle!

to overhaul the bearings in the alt is an easy job if you can get the pulley off. Bearings from a bearings supplier would be a couple of quid. Or take it to an alt repair guy who will do it for cheap. Like wise if the bearings on the idler are shot they can be pressed out and replaced.

I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works here guys. There is an additional tool you need to set the timing. It is in place of the hydraulic tensioner. It is essentiall the same shape but it has a fixed length to press the chain the exact correct amount to set the position of the cam sprocket...
