at wits end i truly dont know ?

i consider myself a novice mechanic ....the mechanic i took my vehicle to was refereed to me by a good friend who owns over 10 classic cars ,also by another business owner.well its been a month.the symptoms were truck was getting bad mpg.stalled at any stop.erratic idle ..lack of power .awful...

i tested at rail i get 35 ...when i unplug fpr vacuum line it jumps up to 40 psi . gonna do the vacuum test today .... added note some days a lot of black smoke ...some days none ...fuel mileage miserable :salute:

it dies when i give it gas.i found bad pcv valve.when it was disconnected car idled high but wouldn't stall. if i get it running it will idle around 500 rpm when i accelerate i have to baby the pedal slow crawl takes a while to pick up speed.dies if i let of gas

Second update Purring like a kitten ... No black smoke ...so sputter... No stall.. For now . Test drove it around town let it idle etc.rpm stable .. So looks like for me ... Replaced fuel filter spark plugs added lucas fuel injector cleaner cleaned mass air flow...

it is above the filter when i move it around it makes a putting sound ....???

update... update.... ok i replaced the iac valve yesterday and it was shutting off... last night i disconnected ground from battery since i read about computer having to reset. i did the carb cleaner around intake thing no leaks.computer was reset.was running with idle super low at first but...

im just a self taught mechanic .if it has sentimental value save it of course .but for that kind of money get a whole new engine ive seen them for 600 to 1200 online some with warranty .or get a second opinion..(note) i am not a certified mechanic
