    Looking to try a blower

In my reading, I have discovered that you can fit and Eaton M-90 supercharger from an old T-bird SC, or Cougar XR-7, to the 4.0 SOHC. Anyone have experience with this? Worth it? Not?

    Sway bars

I already bought quickstruts, for the rear. The springs were broken. Now, they are functional. Just wondered if different springs (i.e.-heavier/progressive springs) were of any benefit? I test drove a Ford Edge. You just can't seem to find a bump/dip/pothole, enough to make it ride rough. The...

    Sway bars

I had a broken link right before fixing the suspension. So, I have...sorta...tried it already. My rear coil springs were broken. The left front ball joints were shot, and I needed a rear left wheel bearing. So, in addition to the sway bar link being broken, I don't know which of what was making...

    Sway bars

I don't do much off roading to speak of. A little dirt/gravel to get to fishing spots, only. But, I AM tired of the side, to side wobble when ecountering dips/bumps. I have new Monroe strut cartridges, in the rear. New struts in the front. New U/L ball joints. The suspension is fully factory...

How to install cabin air filter [PICTURES]

Just a note...I did my filter mod a year ago. And, it's stupid easy. I was amazed at the minimal amount of work I had to do. I simply used a dremel tool with a cutoff disc. One hour to cut out the access (inside the vehicle, no removal of anything, but the glove box.) cut the filter material...

Question about easiest repair for wheel bearings

Used Timken 9 months ago, and...doing it again, tomorrow! SKF is what Ford uses. I'm using SKF, this time!! Edit...I'm just about to the point of buying an extra pair of knuckles, with a new set of bearings ready to go! One goes bad...swap out the old for the new, re-align, and go. What an...

    Vibration...Help needed

Not saying that this is the problem...but, I had an older Exp, that had a vibration, that got worse, at higher speeds. It was the steering box. I had it changed out, and the problem was GONE. Now, a vibration can come from LOTS of different places. But, that was what I had. Just another place to...

Had a starting issue today. Couple questions...

After being on this site for a few years, and owning an '02 Explorere since brand new, I can say that the problem you have mentioned, is not new. I had the same problem. I found that it was the alt. I repleced the alt, and the fairly new battery that was destroyed by the bad alt. And, have since...

    Anyone Running Dual-Alternators?

And, where did you locate the second battery for this dual charging system? You did seperate the charging system into two distinct/separate systems, right?

How to make your Ford Explorer steering column telescope PICS

When I first bought my 3rd gen XP, I noticed the column seemed to have a "bellows" type collar. It seemed to indicate that the column would telescope. But, it would not. I just felt that with the seat all the way back, reaching the steering wheel was only feasable for a guy of 6'10"! So, when I...

Anybody done dual alts on a 4.0L?

Halleuha!! https://www.dcpowerinc.com/fit/2004~Ford~Explorer~4.0L-V6/7768-6k-300-spx.html It requires NO MODIFICATIONS. A bit pricey, but FAR cheaper than a dual alt setup...that is not possible on the X anyway.

    Help, Bucking after acceleration.

With the higer milage vehicles, there is always the possibility of a bad set of cats. It might not be, but bucking, can be due to excessive backpressure. As well as decreased milage.

elecrical issue, rear wiper motor 2003 XLT

The condition of a dead battery causes this same response. If you charge the battery with a charger, then let it sit for 10 minutes, you should see that your guages act normally when switching the ignition off, and on. If, after sitting for overnight it does not, then you have a damaged...

Please Help me! 2002 explorer bucking

Once again, I had VERY similar troubles. Mine ALSO got worse in warmer weather! I feel it HAS to be something in the ignition/fuel system. I had a bad coil pack. This led to one of the plugs going bad. You might have a problem with a crank trigger. Your O2 sensors, COULD be bad. Or, a few other...

Please Help me! 2002 explorer bucking

Well...I feel like an idiot! I over looked my real problem for a month! I have the same vehicle. I changed out the DPFE sensor. It DID make a difference. But, only a small difference. I changed out the fuel filter. It, too, made a difference. But, only a small difference. The vehicle DID run...

02 ford explorer issues idle and drivability

OK, I just replaced the DPFE sensor. I ordered it after doing some reading on this forum. I replaced it in about 5 minutes. Actually easier than replacing a turn signal bulb! Disconnected the negative terminal on the battery to delete the "service engine soon" light. Instantly, everything was...

    Jasper 5R55E

The trans for the 4.0 on an '02, it the 5R55W. I have one from Jasper, and it works great. Been using it for 5,000 miles, now.

Upper Control Arm and Ball Joint question

My philosphy is to treat them like headlights. You replace one, replace both. If the upper goes, replace the the lower as well. They are essentially the same part. If one is bad, and you're already there...why not do them both? You will need an alignment after you replace the upper. If you only...

02 ford explorer issues idle and drivability

The throttle body, on my X was fine. But, I had the fuel filter changed, and this solved part of the problem. However....it did not SOLVE the problem. I still have a stumble, off the line. And a stutter/stumble, some of the time. As stated...some of the problem was fixed with a new fuel filter...
