I am looking at a 97 Explorer with a 4.0 OHV, not SOHC Needs a trans, I was told they are 97 specific??? Or will any 4.0 OHV 4 speed work? Anyone know what years use what trans and what I can use in this truck?

I just got a beater 5.0 Mountaineer, 5.0, when the trans is in drive it stays in first gear, if I put in 1st, then shift to second it goes into 2nd, put in drive goes back to first, is that the limp mode? trans works fine otherwise.... not too familiar with these...

Sweet! I love mine, they ride way better then my 03, I thought it rode good, love having a moon roof now too, 4 Explorers and now I finally have a moonroof in #5...I like like my Mountaineer with the satin trim..

I am surprised to hear that about the Ford interior, I have had 4 Explorers and now a Mountaineer, all have been extemely quiet interios with no rattles unless you REALLY hit bumps bad... and Ohio roads SUCK probably worse then anywhere with potholes!

MY brother has the 5.4 in his F150, I think it does well, in my opinion if any real towing is done the diesel is the way to go, I will never have a gasser truck.. I do have to say a huge turnoff on the Tundra was the "tinny" feeling when opening and closing the door...

I went to the local auto show today... looked at every brand just to look, I would never consider anything but Ford anyway, but I did want to see what the hype is about Toyota so I looked... I thought the Tundra was very cheaply built, especially for the money... I would much rather have a F150...

I looked at it, I live 10 min. away, what did you get it for? if you don't mind....I believe the front and rear bumpers were repianted, probably from chips or whatever, (my rt front was touched up on the front bumper, you can tell in the pic the color is off, I will be redoing that this spring)...
