    98 EGR tube (4.0 V6 OHV)

Found a new EGR tube at my local Ford dealership (in Manhattan), cost around $50 bucks. I realized you need a 1 1/16 line wrench for the nuts -- sorta odd sized for a line wrench. Found one on ebay. Having a tough time getting those nuts to turn, don't want to force it even though line wrench...

Stripped Throttle Body Bolts -- how to repair

Helicoil would definitely be overkill for this. Heli-coil or anything similar is really only required for aluminum threads (such as intake manifolds or spark plug threads) or any application that requires high temperatures. Loctite makes different versions of this stuff as well that is rated...

Stripped Throttle Body Bolts -- how to repair

Greetings all, I followed scucci's advice, bought the Loctite Form-A-Thread repair kit. I did the repair last night, it worked great. Anyone doing this repair (plastic thread repair) this is a great product. Here's what I did: 1.) Removed air intake tube, removed throttle body cover and...

    98 EGR tube (4.0 V6 OHV)

Just found this posting on removing EGR line and/or tube. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225563 Looks like the best bet is to heat both nuts on each end of tube with small torch, then hit with PB blaster. My valve is in good shape, very little rust on nuts or threads...

    98 EGR tube (4.0 V6 OHV)

Thanks for the response. My EGR tube looks OK, I don't need to replace it. I do have a new EGR valve though, was thinking to replace my old one, which looks as though it's seen better days. My concern was damaging the tube during removal of the old EGR valve. My tube is fine now as I said, I...

    98 EGR tube (4.0 V6 OHV)

Bump. Anyone get the V8 model EGR tube to work with V6? Will 94 EGR tube (V6) work fit? Anyone have a part number for a EGR tube for a V6 OHV?

NEEDS 95 4.0l EGR TUBE HELP!!!

Where you able to find a new (i.e. Genuine Ford) EGR tube for your V6 OHV or did you get a replacement from a junkyard? I've noticed that you can buy the V6 OHV for 91-94 models, but only V8 EGR tube for 95 up (or SOHC tube). I have 98 OHV. 4.0 V6. Been looking for a replacement tube. Does...

    98 EGR tube (4.0 V6 OHV)

Greetings all, searched the forum for this, didn't find anything so if someone has any info or if this has been discussed help a brother out. Got a 98 XLT V6 OHV, 115K miles. I have a new EGR valve I'd like to put in. I'd fixed my lean codes by replacing all gaskets and vac lines on my...

    '98 Running Board removal

Rock on guys...yeah I guess I could do with just removing the flares on the 98 side paneling and putting the street flares. It's those wheel well/flares/splash guards on the 98 side trim that I really dislike. I'll have to yank my boards and figure out something. I happen to know a few guys...

    '98 Running Board removal

Another quick question, this may have been answered before on the forum so if it has excuse the repetition: 1.) What about XL vs XLT stock side molding for 98 explorer? I have XLT molding as I said...is the base XL molding any different or more flush? 2.) I noticed 99 explorers have actual...

    '98 Running Board removal

Have 98 XLT 4x4, I think running boards look like crap. This is exactly what I'm trying to do. Does anyone know any replacement trim (not necessarily from another model explorer) or molding to fill in the side holes? Thanks. Will post pics when I'm done.

Stripped Throttle Body Bolts -- how to repair

First off, thanks for the replies. After thinking about this for a bit, it would appear the loktite solution should be appropriate for several reasons: 1.) If done correctly, it will allow the screw to be removed and reinserted cleanly (as long as you follow directions and make sure to coat...

Stripped Throttle Body Bolts -- how to repair

Greetings all, Owner of 98 Explorer V6 OHV, recently did upper intake gaskets and all vacuum hoses to fix lean codes. When I was reassembling the plenum, I fear I may have stripped one of the throttle body bolts. These are a set of four bolts, identical to the ones that hold down the coil...

    '96 Explorer Vacuum Leak

Just swapped all vacuum hoses Guys, thought I'd chime in. Replaced all vacuum hoses on my 98 XLT this weekend. Used silicone hosts from boostcontroller.com, but these can be purchased just about anywhere. They are vastly superior to rubber hoses and very easy to work with, just slice 'em...

Cragar 342 Rim Size on 98 XLT

They make 15x7, 15x8, and 16x7...in 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. Anyone run the 15x8? Or the 16x7? Leaning towards the 15x8. Is there anything I need to know regarding backspacing, spacers, etc. Thanks in advance.

Cragar 342 Rim Size on 98 XLT

Greetings all, I'm looking to buy new rims/tires for my 98 XLT 4X4. Been scoping the Cragar 342s, black with the red stripe. Look like a good deal for the money and very classy...looking to pair these with BFG ATs or a pair of Mickey Thompsons. I've got Bilstein Super Heavy Duty shocks...

98 Explorer V6 OHV stalls after wires/plugs changed

Haha! I'm such an idiot. 4 & 5 were swapped in wrong positions on the coil. Funny no matter how many times you look at the diagram...I even found two different ones to cross reference in case I made a mistake. No wonder car was shuddering when I tried to start it? (haha) That can't be good...

98 Explorer V6 OHV stalls after wires/plugs changed

Greetings all, I have 98 XLT V6 pushrod 4x4, 115K miles. I just changed my plugs/wires (had cylinder misfire on #3). JBA cables/NGK iridiums. Had to gunk engine before changing plugs due to build up of oil and grime (I inherited truck). After changing plugs and wires, truck turns over...

Tie rods scraping body panel underneath feet after Bilstein shock upgrade.

Everyone, thanks for response, this was a bit baffling. I'm not entirely sure what the issue was. Over the weekend, I replaced both plastic fender liners in my 1998 XLT V6. After the replacement, the scraping noise went away. I can only assume one or two things. Note, these plastic liners...

Tie rods scraping body panel underneath feet after Bilstein shock upgrade.

James, thanks for response (and thanks for welcomes from all, great site). The only reason I suggest it's related to tie-rods is because that's the only part I believe could be causing issues. It also has occurred to me that it could be something else, like a piece of debris. I lost the...

Tie rods scraping body panel underneath feet after Bilstein shock upgrade.

Well I could take it to a mechanic, but that's why I'm on this forum. Changing tie-rods is trivial. Yes you should take it to get aligned after tie-rods are changed. What I'm asking here, is whether or not my diagnosis sounds correct and if anyone has experienced something like this. Thanks.

Tie rods scraping body panel underneath feet after Bilstein shock upgrade.

Proud inheritor of 98 Explorer XLT 4x4 V6 pushrod. Just had the shocks replaced with a nice set of Bilstein Heavy Duties. An absolutely amazing upgrade ($275 for all four from shockwarehouse), it got rid of sag in rear end and actually ended up lifting the truck perhaps a half of an inch or...
