    91 Explorer steering

The shafts with rag joints develope play as they age. The rag joints do not have rebuild kits but some mid-80s jeep lower steering shafts will fit the Ex with modification of the upper joint. I built my replacement shaft that way. They are sold on ebay but again, the shipping may be very high...

Project X = Power Steering with AGR Pump

Mr. ALBINO 94LTD, I recently (11 mos ago) installed the AGR pump in my 1992 Eddie Bauer. At the instillation, I also added a section of 2+ inch hose to the filler tube and tightened it on with a stainless steel screw clamp. The hose was cut so that with the filler cap/measure installed, I...

    Intermediate Steering Shaft...

I told TBars that I was rebuilding the rag joints in my 92 X. I did so and they looked great. Problem was the aforesaid rubber bumps. I used hard rubber "O" rings and bolted the rag joint/rubber O rings into the lower intermediate steering shaft (Ford named, not me). Problem was, I could not...

Project X = Power Steering with AGR Pump

ALL mentioned by you have been replaced within the last 18 months with new MOOG parts. The front end is tight. The alignment people say the steering box is SHOT! A Cardone rebuild only 18 mos. old. I spoke to Larry at AGR (really knowledgeable guy about steering) and he said to try an AGR...

Project X = Power Steering with AGR Pump

Ted, Bill Tharp here...the dead guy in La Crescenta. I just finished reading the whole thing here about the trials and tribulations with the AGR pump. I wanted one about the time you put yours in. Instead, I went with a Cordone re-manufactured pump and gear box. A lot cheaper and I am only a...

    More permanent shift motor fix???

What I used I used the "Milky White" 3/8" (Plastic?/Teflon?) refrigerator line on my motor gear stop two (2) years ago. It has never let me down and continues to work just as required. I discovered that to set the two wheel - 4 wheel hi/lo range so the it works correctly, I had to have my...

Axle Shaft Spacer & Snap Ring - How important are these?

A good way to look at these "extra" parts is if not needed, FORD would not install them. Think saving $1.00 on each hub on 20,000,000 cars... Make sure you re-install ALL required parts in the order they were removed.

Fixed 4wd selector motor redneck style

Trick Way To Shift But Dangerous. That's a trick way to solve the problem of the shift but punching holes in a frame that appears to have so much body cancer may hurry the inevitable failure of same. Could be a dangerous fix.

    Problem with my 4x4

Maybe to much lube I just had another thought, if you over-lube auto hubs, they will not completely engage and do the same as you describe. Pull one front hub and see if they are heavily greased. Then if they are, check the auto-hub site I gave you for instructions on how to clean and re...

    Problem with my 4x4

How inexpensive do you want to go? For durability and reliability, I agree with FASTCHARLIE that the WARNs are the best (I run a set). But for price, if your auto hubs are not destroyed, cleaning and re-installing them will cost the price of a can of lithium grease and a quart of parts cleaner...
