how do i identify which ttb i have? [ball joints]

i have a 1991 XLT 4x4. i went to pick up lower ball joints and apparently there are two part numbers. how can i identify which i have? in addition i was going to order a set of brembo rotors and they two are offered in two part numbers. 57mm overall height and 64mm overall height. i'd...

    dynomax cat-back from summit

another exhaust system on my explorer fell prey to rust. the truck is getting older, rustier and has covered over 211k miles. not sure how much longer it will be around but i needed an exhaust. i decided to order the $109 dynomax cat-back from summit. for $109 buck i was actually pretty...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

MONMIX, i am confused then. if a tacked on rocker or dog leg is a saftey issue [and i am now driving an unsafe vehicle] how a completely rotted and missing one not a saftey issue? EVERY weld on your trucks body from the factory is a spot weld. there is not one full bead to...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

i know the dog leg is one piece with the rear 1/4 but just as you stated the leading edge is just spot welded. it's spot welded to the rocker no less which is also spot welded. i do not need to cut a dog leg out to understand. when i got my truck the dog leg was non existent. it was rotted...

    Needs Oil...

well, i'd guess that the engine is off for the shortest amount of time in the gas station. she gases up and is off. in mickey d's you gotta wait on line. in the supermarket you'd have to be able to out run carl lewis and have david blaine as your cashier to get in and out as quick as pumping...

    Needs Oil...

the correlation is the mileage. she is ending up in the gas station after using the car for roughly the same amount of time each time. that is my guess. the only other guess i can pull out is if it is really cold out and the gas station is that close to your house you reach the station...

    Needs Oil...

at what rate is it consuming oil? it's either being burnt or leaked [ovbiously at a rate not noticable to the human eye if you don't see puddles or smoke] but that is here nor there. how many miles are put on the truck between needing to add oil? is it roughly the same each time?

    Needs Oil...

your truck is using oil at a steady rate. not sure what it is but just say that is uses a quart every 3000 miles. you also used gas at a certain rate. say 17 mpg. that being stated you can probably cover 270 miles per tank. every 11th time for a fill up you'll be a quart low and the oil...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

it's a non structural piece. it was spot welded from the factory. can't you see the spot welds when you open your door? to say that we are compromising strength, intergity and safety by spot welding in a rocker is going a little overboard. espcially seeing the numbers of explorers on the...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

trying to run a full bead across that is crazy!!! there is no need... besides, even if you don't burn through you will probably put so much heat into the metal that it will be all warped and wavy. mine [the pics] is just spot welded. probably 1/2" to 3/4" apart in some spots too. then i...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

seriously, if you are going to herc you can probably get away with just using metal epoxy to attach the dog leg and rockers. well, if you don't weld.

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

ahahahaa... i had the rust cut out and the rockers and dog legs welded in in just a few hours time. if your motivated, unlike me you can do the whole job down to the paint in a 8 hour day [being like me, not a body man by trade]. the times also call for mixing paint, paint flashover between...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

i cut about 1/2" beyond the rust. so where there is rust just cut 1/4" to 1/2" past where the rust ends toward the good metal. don't worry about the oem weld. wait till your rockers arrive and hold them up to the truck. cut away your rust and you might even be able to cut the replacement...

Help!!! Replacing my rocker panel and dog leg

i bought new dog legs and rockers from rustrepair.com it was under $125 for all the parts if i recall correctly. all you need is someone with a little experience with a 110 welder. cut out the rust, trim the parts you recieved to just cover with slight overlap the area's you cut. spot weld...
