Need a replacement center console lid

I managed to piece the old one back together for now with some glue. I will see how it holds up. One thing I did to relieve some of the stress on the lid from opening and closing it all the time was to remove the latch hardware that locks the lid down when closed. Stress is created every time...

Need a replacement center console lid

The center console lid for my 2000 Explorer is trash. I bought a kit to re-cover the lid it but in taking it apart I noticed the mounting screw bosses on the base itself are all cracked and broken so the screws will not hold when I put it back together. Unless someone can suggest a way to repair...

I installed a rebuilt motor from Advanced Auto Parts ($39.99...limited lifetime warranty:) and that took care of it. Thanks to everyone for helping out. I appreciate that. Dave

Need assistance diagnosing rear wiper problem

I have a 2000 Explorer and my rear wiper will not operate. I have looked at a number of threads on this subject and while they were somewhat helpful I really don't have all the information I need to troubleshoot this problem properly. (I knew I should have bought that shop manual.........but I...

I need tips on changing plugs and plug wires on a 5.0 AWD Explorer

Thanks a lot guys. Is the correct plug gap .035? I don't have the shop manual. Also are all the heat shields I see on the current wires re-usable or do I need to get new ones?

I need tips on changing plugs and plug wires on a 5.0 AWD Explorer

It's time to bite the bullet and change the plugs on my 2000 AWD Explorer with the 5.0 motor. The drivers side looks very straight forward but the passenger side presents some challenges with the back two cylinders since you cant (seemingly) reach them. Can anyone who has done this job give...

Need help identifying squealing noise comming from drivetrain

Thanks for your help Joe. I found the TSB and a bunch of other postings on the subject. I noticed in one of your posts you mentioned it took about three times before yours was fixed properly. Do you know what the issue was? This fix will be on my nickel so I want it done right...

Need help identifying squealing noise comming from drivetrain

I have a 2000 AWD Explorer with about 85K miles on it. I have had this noise for a long time (over the last 50K miles) but now it's driving me nuts and I need to pinpoint the source of it. It is intermittent as well so that makes it even harder. I can go for weeks without hearing it and then it...

    Rear Wiper Problems...

My theory is it has something to do with bending that occurs from opening and closing the liftgate. I think each time you slam the lift gate that arms distorts a little bit from the force of the liftgate closing. Slam it enough times and it is out of shape enough so that it no longer contacts...

    Rear Wiper Problems...

I have good news and I have bad news. First the bad news. While trying Joe's fix of grinding down the tabs I broke the wiper arm clean in half............ grumble grumble. So I went down to my local Ford dealer and ordered a new arm ($43 bucks  ) Now the good...

    Rear Wiper Problems...

What exactly did you do? Is the spring different or what? Maybe I am a little slow but that arm in your pictures doesn't look any different than mine.

What can you do to quiet down noisy Goodyear Wranglers?

Two of the tires on my AWD 2000 Explorer are driving me nuts with the noise they make. The tires have all kinds of tread left on them and are worn evenly. The tire blocks are not "Z'd like" I see on a lot of other noisy tires and Goodyear was of no help when I asked them.:salute: If I could...

    Rear Wiper Problems...

I have the exact same problem. Bending the arm worked for awhile but that doesn't work any longer. I too would like to know what the "proper" fix is.

    Brake Job Questions

Thanks everyone. I will replace the pads at this point based on all your comments and stick with the current rotors. I am really impressed with the condition of my rotors. They look almost brand new. This is the first vehicle I have ever owned that had essentially "perfect" rotors with this type...

    Brake Job Questions

I need to do a brake job on my 2000 AWD Explorer. It has about 65,000 miles on it and this will be the first time I have done anything to the brakes. I need a few opinions and any other advice you care to offer. First of all the brakes are still in good working order. I don't have any...

What could be causing this power steering noise?

The power steering on my 2000 AWD Explorer makes a growling or rumbling noise when turning it to the left or right at slow speeds It typically happens after you have come to a stop and are backing up or trying to park and turning the wheel either left or right. There is no noise in normal...

Anyone else have Tire Cupping Problems?

Thanks for all your input everyone. I figure my Goodyears will last another 10-15K miles so I am just going to keep them rotated and see what happens. Then when I get new tires, I will have the front end aligned and the upper ball joints checked out.

Anyone else have Tire Cupping Problems?

I have a 2000 Explorer with AWD. The tires I have are Goodyear Wranglers and they have about 40,000 miles on them. The Explorer has 55,000 miles on it. Latley the front tires have become very noisy. At first glance I could see nothing wrong with them. I am getting nice even tread wear. But upon...

How do you change battery cables?

The "clicking" that you hear is most likely your starter solenoid engaging. If the starter motor is not turning over, then there is some type of problem there. Without being able to diagnose the car over the internet ;) , I can only offer a few suggestions. If you are handy, you could pull the...

How do you change battery cables?

Have you had the battery tested? A clicking starter can be caused by a weak battery. If you turn in your lights and try to start the vehicle, do your lights dim? If so, it's the battery.

Need help with Serpentine Belt on 302 Explorer

I finally got around to changing the belt today.....what a pain! I had to do it by working under the car. With a 15mm socket on the breaker bar there was not enough room to swing the bar because the nylon cooling fan was in the way. So I wound up loosening the bolts holding the fan in place...

Need help with Serpentine Belt on 302 Explorer

The diagram says to use a 3/8 socket. Are you able to do this from the top or do you have to do it from underneath? And is it the tensioner I described the one under the alternator or is it a different one? Mine is a 2000 model V-8 which I neglected to mention.
