Interaction of "Lane Keeping" and "Lane Centering"

Disclaimer: So with more and more technology crammed into vehicles nowadays there are an exponentially increasing number of combinations/permutations that can happen with settings. Sometimes, when odd combinations of technologies don't work as expected it could be that 1) that combination...

Long-term review of 2014 XLT Explorer

So, I just gave my 2014 XLT 4WD with 167,000 miles on it to my adult son. I had only four (4) non-maintenance expenses on it during the 9+ years I've owned it since new...1) a brake caliper leaked so I had it replaced at a Firestone shop for $400ish (I can't remember exactly), 2) the Vapor...

    2023 Timberline Ordered and Scheduled

I was trying to decide between a Timberline and a Hybrid Limited. The order banks for 2023 Hybrid Explorers were closed so I ordered a 2023 Timberline with sunroof and TechPack on June 26, 2023. It had a priority of 19 which is the highest number (but lowest scheduling priority) for a retail...

    Timberline or Hybrid

So, I've had a bunch of Explorers going all the way back to 1995. I usually buy new and drive them to 200k. So, I'm up to replacing my 2014 LXT 4WD but just don't totally love the current line-up. The current AWD version of 4WD drive is perfect for me but I do tow a 3,500lb+ boat for 100+...

    Hesitation during acceleration

I have a 4WD 2014 XLT Explorer that occasionally "drags" when I try to accelerate. It can be bad, almost dangerous, if I start to accelerate then back off briefly before accelerating again. It feels like something is purposefully attenuating the throttle response. I suspect a sensor because I...

An Honest review of 5th generation Explorer (long)

I’ve spent nearly a year and 22,000 miles with my new 2014 Explorer. More importantly, I’ve spent an entire duck season with the new Ex. The honest review is that I am completely disappointed. Background: I have owned a 1995 XLT and a 2003 XLT V8, and I still own a 2007 Eddie Bauer. I...

Can I make my transmission quit learning?

I loved the way my Ex drove when it was new. It was peppy and the transmission felt like it shifted at just the right time. But, after a short while, it got sluggish. It seems loath to downshift when needed and seemed to hesitate when taking off. I assume it had learned from my usual, little...

    Buzzards ate my Explorer

Buzzards literally ate the rubber gaskets off of my Explorer... I took my little duck boat out at daylight to make sure the motor and all the electrical stuff was in working order. There was one other car/trailer at the landing when I got there. I was out about two hours and came back to...

    In praise of the XLT

I’m a value buyer for everything but this painful trait (or obsession) hits a fevered pitch when I’m buying a new car. For the last three iterations I have bought myself a Ford Explorer XLT. When my wife wanted a Honda Pilot I got her an Eddie Bauer Explorer. When I bought my daughter a car...

Grade Assist on a SelectShift transmission

Is it possible to activate the Grade Assist mode with a SelectShift transmission? As described by the owner's manual it would seem like Grade Assist would be a useful feature: Unfortunately the OM doesn't show how to enable Grade Assist with a SelectShift transmission.

    Caribou

I'm sorry, they discontinued Kodiak brown for this? I guess no one would notice if someone spilled their Caribou Latte on your car.

    Rear View Camera when towing

I don't remember the exact wording but I seem to recall the owner's manual mentioned something that made is sound like the Rear View Camera might be available in 'D' when in the Tow mode. This would be handy to check the tow connection and the trailer. Does anyone know if that's the case or not?

    Key without built-in fob...

I'm just doing some research prior to replacing my '03. It looks like the XLT has a key with the fob built-in. Is it possible to split the two - key and fob in seperate units? I want to be able to duck hunt without worrying about my key getting wet...

    '03 XLT 4.6L V8 - 245,000 miles...no major issues

I've kept up on fluid changes; oil every 3,000-4,000 miles, transmission flush and rear differential every 65kish or so... I've had a few leaks but I'm quick to have them fixed; pinion seal, oil pan seal, oil filter adatper seal, etc...Nothing major though. Still original transmission, yes...

A little bit of help understanding MFT/Sync/Navigation

So, I'm going to get rid of my beloved '03 V8 XLT that still functions nearly perfectly. I'm only considering this because it's got 250k and my wife's Explorer is approaching 100k. I don't want to end up having to replace two at the same time. Anyway, I've zoned in on a '14 (or maybe '15)...

    Keys (programming etc.)

I've got a '03 V8 and my wife is driving a 4.0L '07 Eddie Bauer. I'd like to get my wife's car and my son's car to work with the same key. I'm thinking I can get a single key cut like my wifes along one edge and my son's along the opposite edge. Two questions: 1) The big question...

    Air Intake Idler Valve?

My V8, 2003 XLT is making a chattering noise when I back off of the throttle or when engine load decreases like when the AC shuts off. A guy at my Ford dealer told me it was something like a "air intake idler valve". I asked what would happen if it breaks and he said they usually fail...

Spare 30A circiut in '03 XLT

I have an '03 Explorer with the XLT trim. I am looking for a 30A circuit to power a 12 VDC inverter (400 Watts). Does any know of a good place to get this circuit. The reason I ask is that the fuse panel under the driver's side dash has a fully populated with fuses including one 30A fuse...

Aux inputs on stock '03 radio?

I have a '03 XLT with the standard radio. Not the 7-speaker premium radio nor the MP3. When I hit the CD button twice in a row the display flashes "NO DJ". I assume that this is for an external CD carriage. Does anyone know if this radio is set-up for auxiliary inputs and if so, what type...

Where is (are) the ABS sensor(s) on an '03 Ex?

The ABS light came on on my 17- month old Exporer V8 2WD with 37,600 miles. The Antilock system is definately not working. The light has gone off breifly when it did the ABS functioned (pulsing brake) even during a slow, dry stop. I'm hoping it just a dirty sensor. Does anyone have a...

    Help with a 2003 V8 Explorer

Can you guys with 2003 Explorers please check something for me? When I select MAX or the Panal Vents Only air also blows out of the floor vent that is right by my right calf. I've taken it to Ford but they tell me it's designed that way. I know that it sounds like a silly problem but when...

    Need help or opinions

I am fixin' to replace a 4.0L 95' Explorer that has served me well for 155,000+ miles. I have only had to but about $500 non-maintenance into the vehicle since new and the engine seems to be running flawlessly. I am replacing it with a '03 Explorer. I pull a boat and trailer that weigh...
