Hey guys, I've been looking all over for a 2001-2003 Explorer Sport with the 5-speed manual transmission and the closest one I found for sale is 13 hours away from me. Are these things very rare, and is there anyone else here on the forums that has one?

That was an awesome build. I own four 4.0 SOHC engines and 3 of them are running and one is out of order. All my 4.0s are in Rangers ... I had to come over here to actually get some real information on the 4.0 SOHC.

That is one bad ass ride you got there.

Pulling the engine and transmission together is the only way to go on a vehicle with a 4.0 SOHC. But this is definitely a 2 person job. I just pulled and replaced the engine in my 2001 Ford Ranger 4X4 and it was a nightmare. If I have to do this again, I'll probably remove the cab.

Hey Ben, Welcome to the Explorer Forums ... It sounds like you've found a rare Explorer, most Expos have automatic transmissions. As far as the body lift goes, you will need to get an extension for the shifter and the one for the Ford Ranger will work and probably be easier to find.

I'm having a similiar problem but my temp gauge isn't working at all. I have a 2004 engine in a 2003 Ranger. Could the problem be the actual guage or the two sending unit?

I'm pretty sure it's the same drivetrain. I really want to keep all my 2004 stuff in the Ranger like my guage cluster, airbags ect ... I think a PCM and a set of keys from a 2004 doner Ranger would allow me to do this. PATS would be my biggest enemy, but I think I can make it work.

Those prices are crazy! But, that's why they're caller stealerships and not dealerships. I think I'm going to get into Automotive Collision Repair.
