Possible Stuck Valves - Old Farmers Trick?

I have heard of using marvel mystery oil. Or even automatic tranny fluid but you have to introduce it directly into the combustion chamber, either by a vacume line or directly into the throttle body. On older carburated cars, you simply removed the air filter and poured it slowly into the...

What is this screw? (fm146 transmission)

I recently bought this transmission out of a 1989 bronco 2 and was going through making sure everything was sealed and in working order when I came across this screw (circled in red). I took it out to reseal it and to my suprise there was a spring underneath it. What is this for? any...

I was up at cherry picked parts in toledo and they had a few first gen explorers there headlights, grills, the whole front ends on them were untouched! Mainly the only thing missing from any of the explorers was the manual transmissions, and that is what I was there for lol. It might be worth...

    Transmission swap model questions

I have a 1991 ford explorer sport that has a mitsubishi fm146 manual transmission (yes this is correct, prior owner swapped it out when his m50d grenaded on him) and it has lasted almost 10 years but is ready for a rebuild/replacement. Anyways I found a manual transmission out of a 1996 4wd...

battery needle all over place at stoplight

I recently had a similar issue, though the explorer ran fine, the battery gauge started going crazy all over the place. Changed the negative battery cable (the whole thing from battery to frame, to motor block) and problem was resolved. Check your cables and see if the copper wire in the...

WTK: What length battery cables?? 92' Explorer

I cant help with the positive cable, but I got away with using a 40 inch negative cable. It could have been 2 inches longer but the next size up was 50 inches. Keep in mind my battery posts are on opposite sides of the battery compared to factory so a 40 inch should be plenty long.

Replaced clutch, bled system. No shift

Did you replace your pilot bearing? Even if you did or didnt, it could be seizing up or creating enough drag on your transmission to keep it spinning, making it nearly imposible to get into gear. I have never seen it happen, but i was thinking at work today and if your transmission is in good...

Replaced clutch, bled system. No shift

what brand slave cylinder and other clutch hardware did you buy? You need to make sure you have a good bleed on the system. If your positive you have all the air from your lines, then maybe your slave cylinder is faulty or your pressure plate is faulty. With the truck off, put the truck...

    wobbly wheels...

I noticed today while driving around town the wobble isnt as bad as I thought, I have to be at 45mph or higher when hitting a bump in the road to cause the wobble. As far as ball joints, the front end of my truck is tight. I am thinking I could use some new shocks though as the rear is...

    wobbly wheels...

When you say wobble, do you mean like the tire is out of balance? My explorer does the same thing. The tires have been balanced many times to try and get rid of the wobble. mounted, remounted etc.. still the wobble is present. I bought my explorer from him knowing this. The funny thing...

    radiator fan clutch

I have a 1991 ford explorer and was wondering if the fan clutch for the radiator was electronically controlled. I am kind of guessing it isnt but I am having cooling issues and beleive I have it narrowed down to the fan. Just want to make sure it isnt electronically controlled before I replace...
