    Engine compartment fuse box id?

Guys, I just bought this box and the seller listed it as for a " 02-05 Ford Explorer 4 Door 4.0L V6 Under hood Relay Fuse Box Block Panel" with a part number of 3L2T-14398-ASC. I am not (sorry) using this on an Explorer, but I am hoping I can find out for sure what this actually fits as I...

Removing rear axles - How do I do it?

Sorry, my Haynes has gone AWOL. I have never in my life messed with c clip stuff. I know I need to take the diff cover off, but where do I go from there? I didn't want to do this, but it seems in order to replace all the e-brake stuff that this is the best way to go. Thanks, Russ

    Brake calipers?-97Ex Sport 4wd

Hi all. I am in the middle of buying everything to get my Explorer back on the road. I am looking at brake calipers for front and rear and have a couple of questions. 1. Single or Dual piston? I have come across both. What is stock on these and which is better? 2. Any rebuilt brand...

    newer explorer 16inch wheels work on a 97 4wd?

Just wondering. Seen some on Craigslist, I need new tires anyway so if that size would work I might be able to save some cash. Thanks, Russ

What shocks to buy? Street driven only

97 Explorer Sport 4wd. Stock height and suspension. Looking at shocks and am really having sticker shock. No pun intended. What is a decent shock for on road only use? The only time I will be going off road is if I swerve to miss something. :) Looks like I can spend the money, getting a...

Changing lower control arm ball joints?

I've read the stickies. But I haven't seen-or have missed-anyone saying why not just remove the control arms and use a hydraulic press to remove and install. Is it really that much more work to remove the arms? 97Ex Sport 4wd. Thanks, Russ

Front suspension-is this a good kit?

Guys (and girls if any)- I am getting ready to spend some money to get my 97 Sport 4wd back on the road as a daily driver. I drive about 100 miles a day. Was reading the lower ball joint installation sticky and saw a link to an ebay kit. That one is long gone, but this one among others...

    Speaking of spare tires...

97 Explorer Sport 4wd Maybe this should be in the modified forum, but I was wondering if anyone has found something that would allow you to mount the spare on the rear gate, like most Jeeps do? Thanks, Russ

97 Explorer Power Distribution box relays-Ford only?

Rear steel brake lines for 97 2door 4wd?

I've had to park my Explorer since about November becuase I lost my brakes. Turns out it is the typical Ohio problem of the hard lines rusting thru. I am figuring that I need to replace all the hard lines as well. Income tax refund will be here shortly, so I need to get this truck back...

    emergency/parking brake 97 Ex Sport?

I am not even sure if I have drum or disk in the rear. My question is if the parking brake doesn't hold, is this a sign of my rear brakes going, or is the p-brake a separate unit? Yes, I am starting to feel like an idiot, thanks for asking. :-) I know so much on my 70 Pontiac Lemans...

Hard Brake lines, 97 EX Sport available?

First, I did search, but I may not be any good, didn't find anything other than a few other people over the years looking for some. Are these available aftermarket, or do I need to dust off my 35+years old high school shop class bending/flaring skills and make my own? Lost the brakes last...

Clutch pedal feels like a mechanical linkage type

I wouldn't think that it is supposed to feel like the one did on my 70 GTO way back when, but this one does. Not knowing anything about hydraulic clutch systems, are there any typical suspects here? Thanks, Russ

97 Explorer radio loses passenger side sound

I have a feeling it is a loose connection somewhere, but I am having an intermittent problem with the radio losing the passenger side stereo channel. Sometimes happens when going over a bump, turning steering wheel, even just driving along straight and no bumps. It even did it once when I was...

97 Sport 4.0 Positive battery cable question

The terminal that goes on the battery post is shot. It is still working, but you can turn it without loosing it, and I want to fix it before it becomes a real problem. Are these cables readily available, or should I just buy another terminal and replace the bad one? If replace, do you...

    Elite Explorers question

Sorry, I couldn't seem to find a better place to ask this. Is it possible to sign up without the yearly recurring fee? By mail with a check, etc? I never sign up for anything that requires that after a few bad experiences. Thanks, Russ

Is there an aftermarket intake to use a carb on a 97 4.0?

No, not looking to do this to my 97, but was thinking about using a similar drivetrain in an older car and was just wondering. Doubt if I will do it, don't even have a car for this yet. Thanks, Russ

Different question about the ebrake handle repair

I read a great post here about using a piece of all thread and a cabinet pull. I will likely do that on my 97. But while looking at the rod where the handle went I noticed that it seems to be threaded. Am I imagining that? I didn't get a good look, lousy eyes, but it felt threaded, and bigger...

    Another new guy to Explorers

Hi. My name is Russ Osborne. I just bought a 97 Sport Trac Saturday. I hadn't intended to, but I needed to get something right away and this is what worked out. It isn't in horrible shape. Rocker panels are rusted away on both sides, but other than that not much rust. Runs good so far. I...
