    2004 4.0 vin k motor swap with 2003 vin k 4.0 HELP

All sohc v6 engines will work in their "Long Bare" state. Just use your original parts to cut out the guess work. Or man up, surface the heads and grind the valves and install a new chain kit as the chances are the junkyard engine will have dodgy chains anyway. While you're at it get the machine...

Yeah, when the belt's too long the tensioner vibrates on its own limit stops.

Replacing Timing Chains, Guides, Tensioners on FORD 2001 EXPLORER SPORT

Because your compression is only at 120-130psi I'd say your CAM timing is a fair ways out. Computer type gadgets will only pick up ignition timing. Not CAM timing. Also because your exhaust is glowing red I'd say your valves are opening way too early letting combustion straight into the exhaust...

    DOHC 4.6L V8 build

That one made me chuckle.:D ~Milling heads costs me about $82 each, that also includes a wash and a hardness test. Crack testing is another $82 and takes all day. ~A wire wheel on a bench grinder and a cordless drill makes short work of cleaning up valves like new. But grinding all the...

    DOHC 4.6L V8 build

There's some great info here, I keep coming back to this thread. The crank bearing side bolts are actually 1/2" for some reason. A 13 impact will knock the corners off but a 1/2" will pull it out without any fuss. Well, at least on the Romeo blocks found in Explorers anyways. As for a budget...

Crown Vic 4.6L SOHC V8 Same as Explorer?

I ended up printing this out. It has extensive info on the Modular 4.6l SOHC V8.. http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Summer2010/Ford_4-6.htm#sohc_heads Oh yeah, and the answer is yes you can but be sure to change both heads as the compression ratio will be different due to different...

    Hook up the speedo

Well whip out the scotch locks and let us know how it goes? 2 wires on the rear abs sensor and 2 or 3 wires on your typical speed sensor. If it doesn't work one way then there's only one more way it can really go? I bet you 100 bucks that if you do get it to work, it tells you the wrong speed but.

Crown Vic 4.6L SOHC V8 Same as Explorer?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew off hand if the heads off a 92-95 Crown Victoria will work with a 3rd gen Explorer? :D:australia

Nah, I'm not into bling. Even my Tux has grease stains on it. I'm doing it purely for the cubes. It'll be a weekend driver and may run down a drag strip occasionally, but just for fun.:thumbsup:

Modern Explorer/Taurus I have it on good authority that with the demise of the Falcon/territory and Commodore the Explorer/Taurus will be back here 2016/17 after a 10 year hiatus. :salute: I can't wait to get my hands on one of those eco-boosts and see what they're made of..:) The...

    Biggest engine possible 2nd Gen.

Yeah I have 2 gas Falcons, one dual and one dedicated. It's actually not a bad fuel and at 50c/litre here in VIC it's a very cheap way to get around.

I think these measurements are fully dressed? Well at least I hope so. Lucky I'm going to junk my dana 35 with the 460 tipping the scales at 720lbs! Now from where my clapped out 5r55e currently sits, 34" puts the fan right up against the air con condenser. I think with ditching the AC and...

Hi, I've owned my 2nd Gen Explorer for about 5 years now and love it to death.:exp: We've been through thick and thin together. "Old Girl" as I fondly refer to it. But you know what? I'm sick of the SOHC V6. Also where I'm living there ain't any beaches to drive on, legally anyways, so I never...

4.6L Explorer engine timing chain ooops!

It's 30 links both ways and the sprockets are keyed, impossible to be out by a fraction of a degree. Allthough If I was going to set the cams with say 4* of advancement I'd most certainly use degreeing equipment.

4.6L Explorer engine timing chain ooops!

I find that the cams are easy enough to line up with hand tools. If you leave the cam sprockets on and cable tie a 19mm wrench somewhere around the intake they won't move. Also the way it's timed is actually quite simple. Crank dot at the bottom and each cam dot exactly 30 links away from the...

4.6L Explorer engine timing chain ooops!

Can easily drop oil pan with engine in vehicle.. Just a quick note for anyone looking. Yes you can and MUST drop the oil pan on the 4.6L SOHC V8 Explorer when doing the timing chains. You just have to lower the anti-sway bar (not completely remove it) loosen off the tie-rods (not completely...
