    Headlights won't work...'96 XLT

Like the poster said above, my problem was fixed by replacing the turn signal stalk. It's an easy fox; Advance Auto has the part for about $75, if I remember correctly. I'm sure you think this couldn't have anything to do with your problem, but it's a common issue on these trucks, and...

    Headlights won't work...'96 XLT

My headlights won't go on in my '96 XLT. When you thur the switch (or the auto lights kick on), all the lights work except for the headlamps. (corner lights, taillamps all work, interior lights dim.) Recently, this would happen, but I could get the headlamps to turn on by flicking the high...

    '03 Explorer Audio Questions

Going from a '96 Explorer to an '03 (4-door, Eddie Bauer). Has anybody been able to squeeze a double-DIN head unit in one of the new ones, using off the shelf parts? I did it in my '96, after many people saying it couldn't be done. Also, is there a Q-logic sub enclosure available as well, or...

    Couple body questions

After closer inspection, I'm in agreement on replacing that filler, I'm either going to hit it with bondo or just leave it be. Thanks for all the input! Now, anybody parting out a second generation front end? (I need everything except for the driver's fender. Also, how do I get the headlamp...

    Couple body questions

96 is a secind gen. I was afraid that piece was welded on, anybody know how easy it is to get off? If it's too much, I just may have to live with it being screwed up, although I really don't want to...

    Kinda silly question.

Actually, 3 birds. I posted the same question about 2 posts up, probably right at the same time (Although I do have another one in that thread that I'm hoping one of the resident experts can shed some light on.

    Couple body questions

2 part question: 1.) How do you remove the plastic intake for the A/C, that also surrounds the windshield wipers on a 96 Explorer? I would assume this just pries off (after you take the wipers off, obviously), but it's on there pretty tight. Any tricks to popping the little sucker off...

    Double din install

I'd shoot a picture of mine, but my camera is curently back with the fine folks at Canon being fixed after I gave it a little saltwater bath. I'll try to borrow one and post a pic on here for you, though.

    Double din install

SAcosche (www.scosche.com) makes the kit you need. I used it to mount a double DIN Kenwood in my Ex, but it comes set up to mount two single DIN units as well. The part number is FD1330. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

    What in the...?

What it is is an Attwood bilge blower designed to clear a boat's bilge of gas fumes before starting. You can buy one at your local Boater's World, West Marine, etc. for $19.99

Where did you get your tires mounted?

I"m buying tires from someone over the internet for the first time, and was wondering where you had them mounted. I'm in college, and funds are tight, so I can't really afford the tires, let alone a bunch of money to get them mounted and balanced, so the cheaper I can do it, the better. I'm...

    Bulb Questions

2 questions regarding bulbs: I'm considering buying the Hiper 85W Superwhite bulbs for my '96 XLT, but I've heard from some people that they can overheat the wiring and fry relays from drawing too much power. I have a friend who has these same bulbs in his '98 F-150 and hasn't had a problem...

    Electrical Problem

There isn't any clearence problem with the speaker depth...I installed the new speaker on the right side of the truck frist and put everything back together, and everything worked fine. The problem came up when I didi the driver's side. I thought the problem would be in the door lock/window...

    Electrical Problem

I just finished instlling speakers in my frint doors, and I apparently caused a short somewhere in the power lock/window circuit, since it blows the fuse within a couple seconds of powering up. I've looked at all the wiring on the driver's side, where I think the problem is since everything...

Check Engine light on '96 XLT

Starting last night, whenever I turn on my Explorer, I get a solid check engine light. I've heard about the paperclip trick for reading codes on the older cars, is there something similar for 96+ vehicles, or am I stuck paying the $60-$80 diagnostic fee? I'm kinda short on cash and I'd like to...

    Oil Viscosity

I'm currently running Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 in my '96 XLT 5.0. This is what Ford calls for, however I've heard some say that 10W-30 or even 15W-40 would be more appropriate for South Florida's hot summers. However, the truck lives in North Florida during the winter where it will...

    Best component set?

Thats the ***** of it though: I've heard the Kappas a bunch of times, and love the sound, but in the store they've got them running off of a huge ass amp. I don't want to blow $400 on speakers and find out that I now need to blow another $400 (that I don't have) on a new amp. Whatever I get will...

    Mountaineer headlight lens?

I've seen on some newer Mountaineers that they have a clear, European style headlight lens rather than the ones like on my '96 Explorer. Does anyone have a relatively inexpensive source for these replacements? I really like the look, and think they would be as bright as hell with a new set of...

    Best component set?

I'm looking to put a 5.25" component set and a set of 5x7's in my '96 4-door soon, and want to know the best speakers to get that would sound good off a fairly low amount of power. I'm leaning toward the new Infinity references, I would install Quarts or Kappas, but I've heard that they would...

what size is my radio opening?

The opening is a double-din with minor modification to the black plastic piece on the dashboard. You will have to cut or file down the lip on the top and bottom to be able to fit a double-din unit in. Scosche (www.scosche.com) makes an install kit for such a setup, it's not listed on their web...

    Infinity Kappa 5x7

If I'm running speakers off of the factory amp in a 96 Explorer XLT with Premium Sound, would I need to replace the amp to be able to drive a Kappa 5.25 component set in the front and a pair of Kappa 5x7's in the rear, or would the factory amp provide enough power to provide me with decent sound?

    Double-Din Headunit?

I've got a Kenwood DPX-600 (www.kenwoodusa.com) in my '96 XLT that I installed myself. The unit was expensive, but looks and sounds great. It only required a little modification to the black plastic peice that the stereo slides into, and I could still re-install the factory unit and have...

    New Q-Logic Sub Box

Just bought one on e-bay, model #QL-C1EXP110A01. Crutchfield shows this as being the one that would fi my '96 XLT 4 door (with premium sound), but the pictures on ebay looked like it might not fit. The deal was too good to pass up, so if it ends up not working out, I'll just resell it. Anybody...

    New Ford Radio

For about $200 less, you can get a Kenwood DPX-600 that fits in the dash with about 15 minutes of modification to the dash (but you can still reinstall the factory unit and not notice any difference.) I've had one in my truck for the last 5 months, looks and sounds sweet. An install kit from...
