Got dimming, Big 3 already done, next step = new battery?

2 sub amps strapped, and 1 for the highs. 2 class D APSM-1500's running a total 4 ohm load, so each amp sees 2 ohms. Saw a vid where a guy benched this amp and got 850W at 2 ohm with 80% efficiency. So I set gains with my Fluke DMM to 1700W (850 x 2). I thought 80% efficiency was decent...

Got dimming, Big 3 already done, next step = new battery?

Good point, I should get the battery and alt checked out first. This system is probably pushing less than 2000w total, I thought stock stuff would be ok. I've been searching for alternators. Some are pretty expensive (Mechman), and some either don't have many reviews or some bad reviews...

Got dimming, Big 3 already done, next step = new battery?

I've got a '04 Explorer with the 4.6 and I believe 130A alternator. The battery that's in it is a 670 cca, which I believe is smaller than what it came with from the factory. I've added a decent amount of wattage with after market stereo, and I have dimming. I have done the Big 3 with 0...

    Front Speaker Depth

Two of my friends have the separate midbass/tweeter com is in the front doors of their Gen 2's and 6x8's fit fine. My Gen 3 has those same front speakers and will get 6x8's that I'm told will fit. I just assumed the mounting holes and speaker hole in the doors were all the same.

    Front Speaker Depth

My front speakers are deeper and they fit my 2nd Gen just fine. Just takes a few minutes to get the door panel off to see, but I don't see why you'd have problems.

Have complete system for '03 X, what should I know going in to it?

It looked like a pain getting wires into the doors of my 95, so I ended up splicing the wires from the amp. But I ran into a factory amp (didn't know it had one), so it took a minute to figure out the wiring to bypass that amp. So I was wondering if the '03 would be similar. I'd just run the...

Have complete system for '03 X, what should I know going in to it?

That's the plan. Couple friend's have them in their Gen 2 X's and I like them a lot.

Have complete system for '03 X, what should I know going in to it?

I'll take off the back panel and see what's up back there. I've seen a few pics on this site. I have not seen any pics or info yet on an amp (if there is one) for the 4 door speakers. I'll check out running the power wire there. Thanks!

Have complete system for '03 X, what should I know going in to it?

I have a Pioneer double din DVD, 4 Fosgate 6x8's, 4 channel amp to power the 6x8's and sub, and a 15" JBL sub in a sealed box. So I guess the only possible complication I can foresee is running new bigger wire to the 6x8's, and maybe finding a spot in the firewall for a 4 gauge power wire...

Anybody have an SPL caliber setup in their explorer??

Yeah Jacob seems really involved with the community and is putting out great products. I know a lot of fills use his stuff for SPL, but I'm gonna look at some SQ options.

Anybody have an SPL caliber setup in their explorer??

I'm thinking about a couple of the newest SA8's for an '03 X I just got. Hard to see how they could have improved that lil beast, but my buddy's ride certainly drew my attention to Sundown.

Anybody have an SPL caliber setup in their explorer??

Gotta love the SA's right? So my buddy just had his metered "legal" today. I think he hit 142.7. It's a Mountaineer (98 I think) with 3 SA8's in a ported box. Amp is a Digital Designs MC1 (like 1700 watts?). Think the highest DB was at 48hz. He plans on building a "SPL" box soon :)

Any way to improve the subwoofer on Audiophile?

Cool thanks  I really like the idea of an upgrade that maintains the stock appearance. This thread is a big help!

    My stealth sub box

That's very nice! I see that sub is only about 4.5" deep. Do you think that's about as deep as you can go? And how do you like those RF 6x8's? I have the R1682's, and I LOVE the midbass the make with 75w a piece. The highs are a bit lacking, I think simply because the tweeters are so far off...

Any way to improve the subwoofer on Audiophile?

So if I'm reading that right, you can mount a sub with about 4.5" depth? I'm looking at an Alpine Type R 8 with exactly that mounting depth. Also, in your pics on page 1, there looks like insulation around the factory sub inside the enclosure. Is that what that is? Do you know if it is...

95 X 4.0, engine tick, stalling, oil additive?

My high mileage 95 4.0 has an engine tick (sounds like valvetrain, could be wrong). My buddy says it's common for this motor. It comes and go, and seems to be more noticeable when cold. I'm basically just wondering what info anyone here may have on this. I'm not too awful worried about the...

Swap 98-01 lift gate on to 95?

So I believe I read this can be done. I know tail lights and rear bumper are different. I think my 95 4.0 XLT may have the 3rd brake light with the ballast...so what would I run into there? Is there anything else I should know? Hope this isn't too random of a question :) Thanks!

3rd high brake light not working

Ok well I will try and ask my Ford mechanic buddy tomorrow. I'll probably need the same info for mine as well. Hopefully I can post some info tomorrow if the question hasn't been answered.

1995 XLT, options for lowering rear...and incorrect speedo question

I'm a noob, so bare with me. I think I need about a 2" drop in the rear of my 95 2wd XLT. One friend says I can remove a rear leaf spring. Another says drop blocks. Another says drop shackles. I've done some searching, but really haven't found direct answers to the pros and cons of different...

3rd high brake light not working

I'm a noob with a 95 that has a 3rd brake light problem too. Now I haven't tried to fix it yet (not that high on the list lol), but from a quick search I read about some models having a ballast that is bad about going out. I think I read that ballast can be found near the brake light...

Newbie just got a 95 XLT, need appearance advice

Thanks for the info Meangreen! Painted some trim pieces tonight. Fixing the little things adds up to a lot in the end. Gonna try and find some trim paint for the plastic pieces tomorrow.

Newbie just got a 95 XLT, need appearance advice

My junkyard trips have only netted me a white grill. The newer front bumper (98-02?) is really what I want most, like in this link http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321007 I'm trying to figure out if I can buy it new on-line if I have to, but I'm confused as to how to...

Newbie just got a 95 XLT, need appearance advice

Pinstripe removal was the first thing I did lol. Looks so much better imo. Did a little touchup paint on a few spots today, and when done carefully, it turned out decent. Oxford White is probably an easier color to match. Going to polish it tomorrow and see how much that helps. I am really...

Newbie just got a 95 XLT, need appearance advice

Crazy thing is someone has replaced the rear tailights WITH the appropriate light from the "curvy" style lift gate lol. Not sure why they did that, but they are like new so that's a plus.
