    V8 Idle Hunts When Cold

Mine has started to hold 3rd & 4th gears a little longer now that the temps have dropped. It's a known fact that Fords don't like the cold. But in your case it could be a PCM issue.

    Fuel Lines

It's a 95/96 (I say it that way because the manuf. date is 8/95 and I have both OBD I and II ports) so I doubt that it is.

    Fuel Lines

Actually, it turns out that my fuel lines were stainless steel, so they are just fine. I just replaced my brake lines with stainless steel, so I am all good to go.

    Highest / Lowest Mileage

1995/1996 XLT 4WD (posted this before, but the manuf. date is 8/95 and I have both OBD I/OBD II ports) just rolled over 126k yesterday. Good to see that the 4.0L OHV has some longevity! I'm hoping she'll last me to at least 230k before I have to rebuild the motor. (might swap it with a 5.0) So...

2000 Explorer 4.0 SOHC starts and shuts off

My mom's truck did that one time.. Come to find out there was NO oil in the truck.

    Fuel Lines

I did a search but did not see another thread for this so... My truck needs the fuel lines replaced. I don't know how much (want to find out this week) of the lines have to be replaced, but I was wondering if anyone else has had it done, and how many arms and legs did you have to give up...

    My truck is a mutt

Last night a friend and I were tinkering with my truck; I was trying to re-wire my lights so that the foglights would come on with my parking lights and headlights and not just the headlights. Needless to say, no go, but we discovered something quite unusual. We found an OBD-II port under the...

    CEL issue

It's a little long, but necessary to explain my issue. OK.. so it all started Mother's Day weekend... That Saturday, I went to Baltimore (about a 2.5 hr ride) to see a comedy show, I figured what better time to test out the Explorer's capabilities going long distance. It did very well...

Advice for engine swap 4.0 to 5.0

I was also looking into maybe having Jasper remanufacture the engine and transmission. It might be a cheaper and less time consuming route than doing the 5.0 switch, especially since my truck is OBD I.

Advice for engine swap 4.0 to 5.0

That was my reasoning for looking into it now. I didn't want to wait until the truck fell apart to decide on what to do. From what it's looking like, I'll need a new trans and new transfer case in addition to the 5.0L.

Advice for engine swap 4.0 to 5.0

I didn't mean 10 years literally. I just meant that it'll take me a while to rack up miles. I guess I'll have to evaluate it when the time comes. And as far as future emissions, anyone with a classic car faces the same problems. I just wanna keep my Explorer going for as long as I possibly can...

Advice for engine swap 4.0 to 5.0

You would think the 4.6 would fit with it being smaller than the 5.0, but numbers don't tell the whole story I guess. I was gonna mention possibly getting a 4.0 out of a Gen III Sport or a Ranger, but I'd still have the OBD issues... DAMNIT!!! I guess when the 4.0 goes, it goes. :(

Advice for engine swap 4.0 to 5.0

I was getting ready to start my own thread about this. I was pondering the idea of doing a 4.0 OHV to 5.0 swap once the 4.0 dies. Seeing as how it only has 120k on it now, and I only average about 5-7k a year, I know it's going to probably be a few years before the engine dies. I actually wanted...

    Racing plugs/wires

I was wondering because I think it might be time to change my plugs and I figured why not add a lil hp while I'm at it.

    Racing plugs/wires

I'm new so Idk if this has been posted before, and they're too many pages to look through so I figured I'd just ask.. Are their Ford Racing plugs/wires available for the 4.0L OHV?

    explorer died on me today

never had to use it on a carburated engnie.. but it's worked for fuel injected engines.. at least for me it has.

    explorer died on me today

Could be the fuel pump this time.. When the truck attemps to start, the fuel pump relay will make a "clickling" sound. But if you want to get it started to get it back, I would use carburetor cleaner and spray it in to the air intake and that'll start it up. Some people use Ether, but I think...

    Power steering fluid cooler

I just bought my truck yesterday ('95 XLT) and noticed after having the vehicle only a few hours that it was leaking pwr. steering fluid heavily. I took it to the shop and they said it was the cooler, so apparently this can be a common issue. Now I'm trying to see where I can get the best deal...
