    1956 F100 Explorer Chassis Swap

I hear you on the crap weather. My buddy drove out an hour and a half to help me work on mine, about 5 hours with no heat and 10 degrees out. We got the front suspension out and some stuff from the engine compartment. I wonder how much we could have gotten done if it was in the mid 30s.

Pictures of the i beam pivot points.

Chassis tech beams were out of my price range, and I havent heard anything good about them. Im hoping I can bring something to this fine community to give us options like you have, your sport trac rotor conversion is brilliant and is on my list of required upgrades.

Im not trying to lay the truck out. I just want to get it about 3" lower. My thoughts are that if I can move the pivot point to closer match the geometry of a ranger I could get away with using drop beams. I would have to move the pivot about 2" closer to the rear of the frame, not up. I have...

Perfect, thank you so much! http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Fall2003/flipkit006.jpg This is the same side beam mount on a ranger. Notice how its on the outside of the cross member where explorer is on the inside, with about a rough estimate of an 1 1/2" to 2" relocation it would...

    Fordkid88's Long Slow build log.

I finally got a 95-97 driver spindle thats not shot to ****, and most importantly I think I figured out what needs to be done to install ranger drop beams on and explorer. It will require some fab work but I think its doable. After talking with John at autofab.com he informed me that the 2wd...

Pictures of the i beam pivot points.

I was wondering if anybody would be willing to snap some pics of the pivot points of the i beams and the engine cross member, mainly just the short arm. I need pics of the rivet location and how it mounts to the cross member. Its snow pretty hard here and I cant get out to mine at the moment. I...

They've been delivered. I talked with the landlord and told her she could let the UPS guy in to deliver them, and called the fiance as soon as I new she would be home just to make sure they were delivered. They're so beautiful!

    Fordkid88's Long Slow build log.

The fuel cell isn't the route I wanted to go, but I had few little options. As this is going to be a mean little street truck, I wanted to have suspension that handles more than anything. The gas tank has to be removed in order to do a trailing arm setup. Im counting down the days until my buddy...

    Fordkid88's Long Slow build log.

Well Ive pulled the trigger on some DJM Dream beams, I found some members on car domain that have gotten them to work with a little work. Ive tried to get into direct contact with them on how they did it, but was unable. But between all of the guys I have found that have done this, they didnt...

    Fordkid88's Long Slow build log.

Well I started working on the truck yesterday at 11:00 and I didnt get home until 8:00. It was 10 degrees out but below 0 with the windchill. I froze my ass off. I got the fuel cell shortened and welded up, brackets cut out of the old seats, cut out the brackets of the new seats, hot rivets...

I would think if the heater core was clogged you would have overheating issues. It is just to hoses that are disconnected and the heater core is removed from the bottom of the dash on the passanger side. What about a thermostat that is stuck open?

    Fordkid88's Long Slow build log.

Well installed the fuel cell, everything looked good and it was solid. So I knew something wasn't right, so I sat and just looked at it for a while trying to figure out what I was missing. Then it hit me, I didnt account for a future suspension drop. I measured the distance of the lowest part of...

    1956 F100 Explorer Chassis Swap

Yeah Harbor Freight for the minimal use stuff, but for hand tools its craftsmen, gear wrench, and titan. I try to pick it up only when its on sale. I have a nice set of Titan ratchet wrenches in metric and standard and sears had a sale on gear wrench ratchet wrenches so I picked them up. The...

Are you going to keep going all winter. This seems like it would be a great winter project. Its 35-40 degrees here and its only getting colder and my projects for winter seems to be getting bigger compared to what I have done all year so far.

    Interior color changing?

I ground the rivets off of the feet of each seat and made a sub-frame that is welded to the feet of the old seat and then its bolted to the rails of the new seat. I have the passenger seat done. It was my first time wire feed welding so the welds are horrible but you can see them.

    1956 F100 Explorer Chassis Swap

Maybe their actual mig welder might be ok, but I doubt it as it probably has the same wire feed unit as the fluxcore, and found out after buying it that it cant be used for body repair because the flux stays in the metal and slowly works it way out through your paint, luckily everything that I...

    1956 F100 Explorer Chassis Swap

What ever you do, do not get that cheap fluxcore harbor freight welder, I did, and I wish I would have saved my money for an entry level mig from lincoln or similar.

    Fordkid88's Long Slow build log.

Just got my fuel cell straps in, so hopefully I can finish this project this weekend minus the paint and plumbing, which will be done in the spring.

    1956 F100 Explorer Chassis Swap

Nice work, the suspension and front of the frame look pretty clean as in no cancer.
