    Moog vs Timken front hubs

I'd love to see made in England, Germany, or any European country for that matter on my parts. Unfortunately, 95% of the time it's always an Asian country(though S. Korea seems to be a possible exception). Although dirt cheap, that usually means abysmal quality control and terrible longevity. I...

    Moog vs Timken front hubs

In the case of the Japanese made stuff it was simply fear of the unknown. However, in the case of the Chinese made stuff it's a different case entirely. The Japanese have generally always had very high quality control due to high pride in their work and products. It's part of their very...

    Moog vs Timken front hubs

Your problem wasn't buying from Autozone. Your problem was buying the generic house brand crapola. NEVER buy anything but name brand stuff. This applies to just about every facet in life btw. Autozone also sells Timken which would be regarded as the best top line brand hub you are going to be...

    Moog vs Timken front hubs

1 1/2 years later and over 50k miles and the Moog hub is still going strong. I replaced the other hub as well shortly afterwards with a matching Moog and it has over 30k thousand miles on it. The second hub I replaced the Moog with was a generic aftermarket that couldn't have been on there very...

Husky or Ford splash guards/mud flaps

The link is for universal ones made by Plasticolor. They're not custom molded or made by Husky or Ford. I have both the front and rear part #'s for the Fords and Husky ones. Ebay was the first place I looked. As for the rears, there are NONE new anywhere period. I looked at every link on the...

Husky or Ford splash guards/mud flaps

I've been having a hard time finding new or used custom molded front and rear splash guards/mud flaps for my 2001 Sport Trac. Apparently, both Ford and Husky made the rears but neither make them anymore. No old stock of the Ford ones are in any dealership in the entire country and I looked...

Can't start when hot, back to normal when cools down

I said "small fluctuations in temperature" don't usually effect electric motors. I had a 1979 F-150 that would heat up the starter from the exhaust and it would keep the starter from cranking over too. Obviously, we're talking about wide temperature differences in such a situation. A hot engine...

Can't start when hot, back to normal when cools down

I can tell you that the most probable cause of your problem is the ignition module. Your symptoms are a text book case for it. When an ignition module is no good and it gets hot it can cease to function until it cools off. Sometimes it will just fail completely and never work again but when it...

    new shock recommendation

I would have considered a load assist or heavy duty shock but I usually only carry an extra 200-300lbs in the bed and another 200-300lbs in the cab as well. I wanted to retain a decent ride since my truck rarely goes offroad and typically that's only when it's an unfinished driveway(rock or...

    new shock recommendation

Thanks for the comment on the KYBs. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I was pretty much sold on them but now I have no doubts about buying a full set. Rock Auto has a good price and there is a $40 rebate until 4/30/14 for the KYB brand.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. How do the Rancho RS5000 ride? Do they give a harsh ride?

    cold air intake increase performance?

Just because something sounds like it should or advertises that it makes more power definitely doesn't make it so. You can buy a magical fuel line magnet that makes 5% more HP and saves you 10% MPG if you think that. They said so on those TV commercials after all.;) Dyno comparison tests on the...

    cold air intake increase performance?

Unfortunately unless you can provide a link to a dyno video that shows an actual gain in HP or torque on a 4.0L in a Sport Trac than it's all hypothetical. Like I said before many older applications like ours show decreases or NO gains whatsoever on the dyno when comparing a stock intake with a...

    2005 Sport Trac tonneau cover

They make repair kits for the console cover. They give you a new vinyl skin and whatnot to repair yours. You can get them on Ebay. You need to know the color of your interior before buying it. The factory hard tonneau cover(if that's what you have) is superior to any aftermarket one in quality...

    cold air intake increase performance?

I agree 100%. Most "cold" air intakes do nothing or actually hurt performance anyway. Only some limited applications benefit and only from certain intake kits. I've seen dyno videos that compared stock vs aftermarket and saw a decrease in performance with a CAI. Having said that I've also seen...

    new shock recommendation

I assume many of you have replaced your shocks. I'm looking for any feedback on brands/models and particularly any of you that installed KYB shocks. Any opinions are appreciated.

    new shock recommendation

Budget isn't much of a concern and I do 99% onroad driving with some offroad at jobsites(rare). Like I said I always carry a light to moderate load in the truck. I'm leaning toward the KYB brand because of reputation and price but I don't know if the Gas-A-Justs or Monomax are right for me. I...

    Moog vs Timken front hubs

I just wanted to comment on my experience with front hubs recently. I thought I had to replace my front hub(turns out the noise is actually coming from my CV axle) and didn't want to buy the generic brand of hub at the auto parts stores. I had the choice of Moog at Advance Auto Parts for...

    new shock recommendation

I need to buy new front and rear shocks and I'd like any input on what anyone else recommends or better yet any experience on what is on your trucks. I'm probably going to buy KYB and I have a stock height Sport Trac that is a daily driver that always carries a moderate load. Comfort and...

    unknown 4WD problem

I thought as it was happening and shortly thereafter that it might have been the diff but it's a stock open front diff and when I had the dealer check it out they said the front axle was full of oil so overheating seems unlikely to me but who knows. Maybe in 4WD it puts more strain on the diff...

No problem, I was just writing down what I think might be happening with my truck. Any comments are welcome.

    unknown 4WD problem

When it was stuck in 4WD on the highway after 20 miles going 40MPH I pulled off the highway because I noticed it was getting harder to move the truck forward. I stopped and the truck was resisting moving forward from something in the front 4WD. When I would give it enough gas it would creek...

    unknown 4WD problem

My problem turned out to be that my truck was stuck in 4WD High. I got it out of 4WD later that night by going in reverse/forward real hard a bunch of times in the snow while also switching from 4WD to 2WD a couple of times. I haven't tried the 4WD again. I still don't know exactly what I...

    cargo light leak

I tried finding this using the search function but I saw nothing for 1st gen. Sport Trac. I have a leak coming from my cargo light. It leaks pretty good. I called Ford and they don't sell just the gasket. They only sell the entire light with the gasket which is just ridiculous. They didn't say...

WTB: Strikers for 1st Gen Sport Trac tonneau

FordPartsGiant.com sells them for about $25 a piece. There are two different part #s that you need. Two of each: 1L5Z-99286B70-BA & 1L5Z-99286B70-AA. They also sell the bolts that hold them to the bed. Part # W707426-S900 and you need 12 of them. They're $.60 each.
