Aftermarket sharkfin antenna that’s lower than OEM?

I recently put one of these stubby 4" antennas on my Explorer, so that the antenna wouldn't hit the garage door when I lifted my vehicle. Took all of 30 seconds to unscrew the stock antenna and screw this one on. Seems to work just as well as the stock antenna in my limited testing. Edit...

    PTU Problems

I changed my PTU fluid today in my 2014 Explorer Sport. 30,000 miles, and it was thicker than latex paint and pitch black. No drain plug here so I had to vacuum it out with a Mityvac hand vac. I got roughly 10 ounces out of it, and it took a good bit more than that to fill it up to the...

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

Changed my PTU oil today. That was an adventure, as mine doesn't have a drain plug. Ended up accessing the fill plug through the passenger wheel well (you don't have to remove the liner), and using a hand vacuum pump to pump out the old oil, and pump fresh oil in.

Water pump replacement - who can do?

There's a Ford technician that started his own garage shop, he has a video showing a water pump replacement on a 3.5 or 3.7 Duratec engine. I think he said most dealers charge around $2000 for the job, and that he charges around $1250. Fordtechmakuloco is his YouTube name. Here's the video if...

    Hood decal installation

I decided to dress up my 2014 Explorer Sport a bit, with a hood decal. First step was to clean the area of the hood where it was to be installed. I used some 3M Wax & Tar remover, then some alcohol. Having never installed such a large decal before, I did some research and watched a few...

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

I fixed a rather bad rattle in mine today. It started a few weeks back, coming from the passenger door area. Very loud, I was certain something must have come loose inside the passenger door panel. Using sensitive audio tools (my ears) and a percussive vibration inducer (my fist), I banged...

Borla Cat-back install on my 2014 Explorer Sport

These RaceRamps give a 10" lift, which is really nice. They are pricey, though! Maybe next spring I'll pop for a quickjack.

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

I bought mine directly from JLT. Their instructions are decent, but I found a few videos on youtube that made it much clearer. It's a very easy install - there's a short hose with quick-disconnects that you are removing, the one that goes from the brownish PCV valve. The bracket installs...

Installed a JLT oil catch can today. We'll see if it catches anything!

    Verifying 17N03

This Video shows a Ford tech applying the patches and such. Warning - there's some NSFW language in it, and it's not very high quality video.

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

With the CAI and Borla, it sounds great to me. I hear a nice growl any time I get on the gas, but it goes quite tame, pretty much like stock, when I'm just cruising at a set speed. I haven't done downpipes (likely won't), I've read that can really make things louder. I was told that the...

Looks great! That 3.5L ecoboost is a ton of fun, isn't it?

    Tune with no other modifications?

As I said, I likely didn't really need to change the plugs. Livernois recommended it, to make sure they didn't have too big of a gap. Concern is spark blowout, but plenty of people say they don't change the plugs and have no issues at all. I wanted to change them anyway, just to make sure...

I wonder if there's a menu option for that now, have you tried looking in the settings?

    Tune with no other modifications?

I stopped by Livernois yesterday and picked up a tuner, cold air intake, and 3-bar MAP sensor for my 2014 Explorer Sport. While I was there, they said, "Let's go tune it right now." They loaded my tuner with various tunes, including a 93 Octane for the stock 2-bar sensor. We changed no...

    Corroded spark plug

I'm the original owner. Explorer is garaged every night, but yes I drive through plenty of rain, slush, snow in an area that uses a lot of road salt (Michigan).

    Corroded spark plug

I have a 2014 Explorer Sport with a little over 29000 miles on it. I'm preparing to put a tune on it, so decided to swap the factory installed plugs with new ones that I carefully gapped. In removing the plugs, the middle rear one came out looking quite corroded, while all the rest looked to...
